The science behind several things in Dishonored

I couldn't figure out the principle of action of several things in Dishonored like how Corvo's folding blade operates, how his mask is able to amplify sounds over long ranges, how Sokolov built arc mines etc..It all seems too post modern.I need your help in understanding how they operate. This can make the game feel more realistic and immersive.
-Corvo's mask:
I do realize that his mask's right eye uses lenses of varying focal lengths through which he can see over long distances. But I don't understand how that's capable of amplifying sounds when you zoom in.
-Corvo's personal folding blade:
I read somewhere that the blade is sheathed inside the handle and loaded with the spring that ejects it upwards with the press of the grip-button but I noticed that the blade itself is longer than the handle. So isn't it impossible to conceal it inside the handle?
-Arc mine:
Okay they are mini arc pylons powered with whale oil.But how do they create that burst of electricity?
I found some blueprints in the Dunwall city trials of how they make Piero's spiritual remedy. Are more of them available as artworks in the galleries if I complete enough challenges?
