Linear Continuity, Episodic Continuity, or pure Episodic

which way do you prefer your game series?

a Linear Continuity like "Mass Effect" where you have had to play the previous games to be able the fully grasp what is going on and who the characters are

an Episodic Continuity like "TES" or "Fallout", where the game entirely takes place in the same universe with references to each other mentioned, but you not having to play the previous games to get the most out of the game

or

a Pure Episodic Game like "Final Fantasy" or "Tales of", where every game in the franchise takes place in an entirely separate Universe that bears some similarities to each other

Depends on the series, really. I think it ultimately comes down to how the story is done and stuff. I can appreciate TES for its episodicness, but I do enjoy going through the Mass Effects

I'm fine with any of those, so it's hard to decide which I'd prefer. I like Linear Continuity in theory because it can tell a longer, more focused narrative that requires player investment, but on the other hand, sometimes that's not necessary, and it's better when you can start with any game in the series. Especially if one of the earlier games svcks. You can just skip the bad ones that way.

Adding a cop-out answer kind of ruins the purpose of the poll, doesn't it? I mean, that's the most sensical option, but why bother having a poll in the first place then?

I agree with Abessalom. We can like any combination of the options, but can only prefer one. I prefer linear continuity for character development reasons.

If someone could do Episodic Continuity with the same character, that would be awesome.

Tis what makes a poll interesting. Take out reasonable answers and make everyone favor one specific thing. :D

And it's working because I honestly don't know what I prefer most. Despite what I like seeing with what Bethesda and Rockstar do with their game universes, I have to go with linear. I love looking back at a series I've played that's been a long time coming. All of the characters, the plot, the universe. More touching for me, and much better for long-term storylines.
