Just started a high elf battlemage tonight. My main skills are one handed, restoration, light armor, alteration and enchanting. Ill take conjuration later but ill get to glass armor. Should I smith to glass armor or should I just find/buy it?

Wait until you get to a high enough level for Thalmor to wear it (I think it's level 40) or do power smithing to get it early.

Through my experience of playing a battlemage, a high AR really helps. If you have room with your perks, definitely smith.

I would gradually work My way to Glass as I play. Glass Armor is not that common for a Loot Drop in the Game, compared to other equivalent Heavy Armors. Glass just takes a long time to show up in the Game

I think smithing is a good option. Even though it's on the other side of the tree, taking the dwarven perk and cleaning out a ruin or two will get you right up where you need to be for glass

True. I just dont want a ton of skills to manage. But I suppose I could work at smithing up glass.

Well heres my dilemma. I dont really wamt to grind smithing but with enchats such as increase damage for one handed, wouldn't I be ok? On top of that ill be using elemental weapons with the enchanters perks to increase damage. Also Ill be using alteration so I should be able to boost my AR nicely.
