Can't they just give us an option to enable/disable chat bubbles?
It looks like more than half the community wants chat bubbles which is very understandable so players can communicate properly without /whispering.
I can also understand that some players don't like it, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be an option for everyone.
I for one, see MMO's without chat bubbles much more lonely and dead. you can't just walk up to another player with your character and chat.
I loved the good ol' days of WoW when I go to Goldshire after a long day of raiding, walk into the pub, and have groups of characters talking (not necessarily role-playing) just talking and you can tag along and have some fun, you can see who's saying what without having to look down at the social log, and then target each player until you have a match of names from the log and on screen..
this is just how i feel. to me MMO's are supposed to be very social, and so far to me the game feels very dead and IMO it's the lack of simple chat bubbles that would make general chatting so much easier.
And to not at least have an option to turn it on/off is just very confusing.
