How much should ESO Cost?

Post » Tue Feb 11, 2014 11:20 pm

$15 a month is 49 cents a day for hours of entertainment, that price is completely fine.

Ye it does give another point of view then from all the f2p talk.

But at the same time one does not want to depart easy from, for some people hard earned money.

I rather have a real quality product when it comes to tes games then an sloppy free one.

Where are you from where you need to spend $150 USD per a month for a video game subscription? You used $ which us USD symbol.

Secondly, you don't know me. The world isn't fair - it really svcks, I know. I've lived in various countries and I couldn't afford to pay for games. When living in Australia, they charged double the price for games there compared to the US, don't get me started on the price for PC parts and even the price for consoles. I didn't do gaming for years while living there because I refused to pay those crazy prices, even when the USD and the AUD were near equal in value - the prices never changed. Fact is, because of this world we live in, you have certain countries that enjoy the the benefits of power and wealth, where other countries do not; but what do you expect Zenimax to do as a business? Charge you guys less than $15 per month, while other customers are paying that equivalent? I think they should, but the reality is they won't.

So you have two choices now with reality. Either move on to another hobby that is not going to make you more broke, or pay their exorbitant prices. You may be "tired" of reality, but it is what it is.

Yes it pays all the costs and keep the game nice.

Right. thats what I'm saying lol i can do things any day i want but i can't do something for only .49 cents a day lol . i would spend more money on gas just leaving my drive way then i would in a hour of playing.

It is the principle that gets to some people. Some people see games as a material good, something you can purchase and own. MMO's and subs are basically "renting" the game. I'd hope that those not willing to pay the sub cost can afford 15 dollars a month, since if not they really shouldn't be sitting down in front of an MMO and playing anyway. I can, and do, understand the logic behind not wanting to rent a game.

For me personally, it doesn't bother me as much since I've never been big on material goods anyway. Interests come and go, so I will pay for the entertainment when I'm interested and stop paying when I lose interest. I don't need the game dvd collecting dust in my basemant or files on my pc taking up space, I'd rather just move on.

As Zenimax they can not charge less for one section of the user then others. if you play you need to pay for your server fees thats the way i look at it . it does not matter how much you pay because when it get converted over zenimax gets the same from every player to cover all costs and a bit extra for profit.

I used the $ to perhaps make you understand that 1 of my local currency is the same worth to me as $1 for you or 1 Euro if you live in Europe. I live in Egypt and they charge me in Euros not US Dollars and to pay 15 Euros a month i have first to multiply that number by 10.

Yes, I realize that, but as I said, reality svcks. I've lived in poorer countries than Egypt, and I didn't do gaming. If a subscription fee is too much for you, consider SP games only - Skyrim modded is still an amazing game.

Otherwise, there's nothing you can do about it honestly, they won't lower the price of their game. They're going to charge you the equal equivalent to US, UK, and EU currency. Honestly though, if I was living in a beautiful ancient county like Egypt, I could think of many things I'd rather be doing than playing a MMO.

Quick question, you value your currency worth 1/10th the currency of other countries as being the same?

That is already inherently a bad start to this line of argument.

Does food cost you the same amount in this currency as other countries? Is your pay not also scaled up by this currency?

Since all you are asking for is the same product as everyone else at 1/10th of the price I feel no sympathy

By moving to another hobby you're suggesting that ESO is the only option in video gaming :P, i am a full time gamer and i've been playing mmos and other games for ages and i spent a fortune in them and one of my top played games was WoW which was sub based but now after the revolution in Egypt prices are spiking and EGP is dropping a lot to Euros and US Dollars so if i paid 70-80 pounds for WoW back then i have to pay 150 for ESO not to mention the base game price.

You can imagine that i have to think twice before i do such investment in a brand new game that's future is still unknown. So i hope you understand my point and cut those move to another hobby or get a better job comments :).

And by the way the beautiful ancient Egypt is only in books and movies, you don't wanna see Egypt now where islamists bomb a police station every day and women can't go in the streets without getting sixually harassed :).

Well if you can afford WoW monthly, you can afford EsO because they're the same price. If you're afraid to invest into this game, then you better just wait until solid reviews come out and make a judgement whether it's worth investing or not.

As for Egypt, let's not get off-topic, but i'd love to discuss things with you. I'm Orthodox Christian myself, and I have many close friends from Egypt and the Coptic Church. Oppression only strengthens the faith.

I would pay 1€ / 24H that I log in. Monthly fees are not for me because I dont know when I'm able to play. If it would be monthly ~10€ would be ok.

But if I paid for the 24h game access I probably would play on ~15days max. Now the price and the starting game price is a little high.

Yknow, it is not up to us to decide how much it SHOULD cost. We're the consumers, not the producers. A fairer question is "what would you pay", but even that is relative to what you get for the money. Each of those funding models would likely result in a different product.

The producers are the only ones who know exactly what their expenses are. The only real position a consumer can have is "I want to pay as little as possible for the quality of product that satisfies my standards". But we don't know what "as little as possible" really is, and everybody has different quality standards. (Obviously, based on some of the games that a lot of people play  )

I'll just say that for me, personally, I won't play micro-transaction funded games. I can't stand being constantly asked to open my wallet during what is supposed to be a fun escapist pastime. Pretty much wrecks the experience for me.

And if they deliver the rate of new content that has been promised, they are in a highly competitive position relative to other MMOs that use a sub model. What they've promised is really more than any game has delivered to date, for the same money.

What I would LIKE is to get all that for free with no store ;)

I would happy to pay USD 15 a month only if they don't try to kill the golden goose using my money to develop gambling boxes, cosmetics and other fluff for a cash shop.
