Already pre-ordered the game. I play from South-east Asia (specifically India) and network latency is a very vital metric. (or else suffer from really laggy gameplay). I need to make up my mind on whether to join a US or EU guild. Generally, I check network ping round-trips to figure out which server to choose in an MMO game. (It isn't as simple as saying EU is closer so an EU center is better - sometimes servers in the US can be faster)

Unfortunately, with ESO using a mega-server (network of servers), I am really confused on what to choose. I am assuming that if one is using a clustered network of servers, then an average ping computed over the data center locations should give me a rough ballpark metric. Many MMO's host their US servers on Ashburn/Dallas/Phoenix (east/mid/west) data-centers and EU servers on frankfurt, etc. (Some cities are major data-center hubs)

I realize there isn't a sure way to know this immediately and it is probably better to postpone my guild-application till early-access. But any advice/tips are appreciated.

I think EU is in Frankfurt, Germany... but I'm not sure. But as you've said, that's not the only indication to get a better / or worser ping.

Until the server farms are up in both places, it would be difficult to say which one would have the least lag to India. However, I would imagine the EU server would be the one you want for the least lag. Going under the ocean will almost always give you more lag than land based routes.

Yes, the European server is in Frankfurt. The location of the US server wasn't confirmed, but I think someone traced it back to Dallas?
