Dark Anchors.. how coold would it be if..

Post » Wed Feb 12, 2014 1:01 am

I don't know exactly how Dark Anchors work in ESO.. but As far as I understand, they spawn in specific locations either randomly or at specific times.

I have a feeling that they will be really cool the first couple of times you fight to close the portal... but I also have the feeling that after doing a couple Dark Anchors, I'll just feel bored with them and just avoid them even if I see them.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd love to have a strong incentive to go rally ppl up to fight those Dark Anchors.. and I'm not just talking about cool rewards here.

I just have a feeling that a few months into the game.,. ppl won't really bother with them anymore because they'll be too busy trying to get some quests done or fighting at keeps in Cyrodiil.

To remedy this.. I think it would be really awesome if.. Dark Anchors are left unopposed, they start spawning more and more Daedras.. and they start invading the zone.. They may start occupying local towns.. where players might want to go turn in quests ect.. they could even eventually start spawning huge World Boss Daedras that will just roam freely. Something like this would really make players WANT to rally and fight at the Dark Anchors and prevent such a Calamity from occurring.

I'm not sure if Dark Anchors appear in Cyrodiil as well.. but if they do.. it would be really cool if they were used as a way to balance the factions. If one faction is clearly owning the other two factions and has most of the keeps.. Dark Anchors could start opening in that winning faction's territory.. and send waves of Daedras attacking nearby Keeps with huge "gate ramming" Daedras.. ect. So in this case, the winning faction would now have to focus on defending that keep and also have some ppl go fight at this Dark Anchor to close it.. which would possibly give the other two factions a chance to push forward and take back a bit of land.

Anyways.. just something I think would be cool. That's just my opinion though lol

Very interesting thoughts in the pve world I must admit. Maybe we can press them to do it in an update.

I think these are excellent ideas! This would add depth to the Dark Anchors, as well as to Cyrodiil!

First idea is awesome, and you are right people will probably start ignoring them, although I can guarantee its no boring stuff battling there, I would love if this would happen, but with moderation of course.

Second one, not a big fan of, since if one faction is wining they need to split thinner and thinner, meaning that the likelyhood of the other 2 factions just form a temporary 2vs1 is far more likely, if u add daedras knocking on the door on top of it it would automatically destroy them and there would never be an emperor.

I would like the same idea for cyrodill though and make the daedra stronger there as well, since that would probably mean a 3 way war vs the daedra, a temporary peace of sorts. but I dont like the idea of them doing sieges.

Overall quite a nice idea, and very fitting in the lore of the game, really hope they do something along the lines of what you said.

Sounds like rift. Rifts would launch invasions that would systematically take over a zone if left alone.

Makes sense. If one doesn't deal with a threat when it materializes, then that threat should be allowed to grow.

That's something RIft did and even then people stopped closing them. It got to a point where they nerfed the invasions and stopped them from taking over areas because nobody wanted to be bothered closing rifts all the time and just let the invasions run amok.

You are right in that in time nobody will do the dark anchors.

Given that the game uses Megaserver technology, i'm afraid the game world is not as persistent as you think. While Daedra might be oozing out an open anchor gate in one shard, they might not be doing so in another. This could make it really frustrating for people who are looking for a boss daedra but can't find one or people who want to do their own thing but can't because the Daedra are constantly invading.

Ontop of that, alot of zones are effected by the megaserver technology too. Quests can literally transform a burning village to a resettled peaceful town and vice-versa. To implement another layer of deadric destruction unrelated to any quests fragments these already-effected village shards even further. What you're left with is a few people in your same condition fighting off an overwhelming invasion.

I hope this makes sense.

This does sound like a really cool idea I think they should take it on board.

Ah yeah.. Mikedzines did bring up a good point.. because its a Mega server with many channels / instances. if you log out and log back in, you may all of a sudden be in a channel where the entire zone is invaded... and if you don't want to deal with it.. you could simply log out and come back in and hopefully you'd be in a new mega server channel where the zone is peaceful.

I suppose they could rectify this by simply giving each mega server channel a "number" and by having the game remember which "number" you were in. so if you log out and come back in, the game would automatically place you in the same megaserver channel that you were when you logged out.

Now this wouldn't stop ppl from getting out of their current megaserver instance/channel.. They could still join up with friends or guild members who may be in a different channel.. but at least it would prevent players from switching channels randomly everytime they log out or enter or exit an instanced dungeon.

I want Molag Bal in a trilby and sunglasses to slide down the chain and sing "Soul Man" by the Blue's Brothers into his mace until the event is over.
