The price is WAY off in the UK

Post » Thu Feb 13, 2014 3:50 am

Just thought I'd bring this to peoples attention incase bethesda don't realise somebody has screwed up in the pricing department when it comes to the UK.

Basically the basic game costs us £49.99 in the UK and the imperial edition costs us £69.99, now you might be asking what the problem is? well the problem is in the US it will cost you $59.99 for the basic and $79.99 for the imperial edition, however if you use the current exchange rate the current price in the UK would set it at $82.67 for the basic version and $115.74 for the imperial edition.

Thats 43% more the UK is being charged right now, I don't know if somebody at the price department thought that this price was normal but the most I've ever seen a game priced at is 39.99 on a completely brand new huge AAA title, normally its around £29.99. Obviously £49.99 is far above that, yes you can buy it on amazon for £39.99 which I suppose most people will do but it just seems strange that the official site for purchasing the game is charging 43% more.

I'm hoping this is just a mistake and will be fixed shortly, if not then make sure you buy it at amazon, I'm not sure if you also get a month free buying it from amazon but even if you don't that would only come to 48.98, not a huge saving but its a saving and it seems likely amazon would include a month of free time.

If this isn't a mistake could we please have an explanation as to why it should cost 43% more in the UK when there is no form of taxation which has made a game cost this much with any other game, MMO or otherwise.

It's been mentioned, and it doesn't just affect the UK. Plus, there's [censored] all we can do about it, so just accept it as it is...

Saying nothing we can do about it isn't an answer, sure its nice we can buy it from amazon instead but its entirely unacceptable that people are being forced to pay a foreigner tax for not living in the US, especially one of 43%

Are you factoring in the VAT?

In the many other threads on the same matter, I think even with the VAT, there's around £20 unaccounted for...

It seems they are just charging random prices then, everybody I've asked in the US that I know says they paid $80 for the imperial version of the game. I hope this is fixed before the release, using a random number generator is not how you price a game.

The VAT is included as the VAT in the UK is worked out to make the price end in .99. Theres no other tax or anything that could be causing this its simply costing 43% more in the UK

Thats the cost of import. That is how the world runs, so really, you can only deal with it. The exchange rates are volitile, so they had to decide on a price and stick with it regardless of rate changes. Be glad they went with 69.99 instead of matching the US 79.99

The retial Imperial collectors edition cost about 118 euro where i live. I Think its a fair price for a good game. I dont buy games that often, but when i finally find soemthing i really like, ill pay the price.

The monthly fee is good aswell, sicne its adressing a mature and good player Community aswell it feeds the devs to further develop the game with new content.

Not that is NOT the price of import, I have never bought a game which costs this much, and I highly doubt that every single game except this one was made in the UK, especially as skyrim cost about £39.99 on release I believe as a AAA title. And what exactly am I importing with this digital purchase? I have the client I've accessed the game I'm buying the rights to access from this pc, there is no need for a boxed copy to be sent, I don't want one, theres nothing to import.

Can UK folks order from GMG? If so, they should be able to get the base game download code for $45.

I did work out the exchange rate its in my original post, I don't know why you paid so much if you live in the UK but everybody else in the US I've asked said the basic game is $60 which is about £36 at the current exchange rate NOT the £49.99 we are being asked to pay

That is the price of import for this game. If you want to play the game, that is what you must pay.

I checked GMG even they are trying to charge £49.99 in the UK, I don't get why this is happening, as I've said the most I've ever seen a game cost is £39.99 for a AAA title everybody is waiting for NEVER have I seen a game cost £49.99.

Luckly we have amazon who are being reasonable though I don't have a clue if they give us the free 30 days, as I said before though even if they don't its cheaper to get it there as for some reason the subscription is working off the exchange rate properly
