Des it not seem like the future DLC's will carry on the stor

Post » Sat May 01, 2010 12:27 pm

This isn't specifically about the DLC content themselves so I didn't put it in that section.

At the end of Dead Money we are given two pieces of information (potentially) that strongly hint at future DLC regarding our courier:

"At times, Christine thinks of the Courier, who had kept Elijah's hand from her throat. The Courier had reminded her of the other courier she had met in the Big Empty, and wonders if the two had found each other at last. She does not think of them again until she hears the legends of the Divide. The Divide, where the two messengers, the two couriers, fight beneath an ancient flag, at the edge of the world."

and

"The new voice does not think of the Courier again until the battle at the Divide reaches his ears. The battle between the two couriers, beneath the torn skies and the Old World flag... each bearing a message for the other."

Now, this sounds pretty epic does it not? An intense battle between ourselves and another courier (who is known to be Ulysses). The thing is, this doesn't seem like the kind of thing to randomly happen while wandering the Mojave in between quests for the NCR/Legion/Whoever. I just can't see us having some kind of epic battle at "the edge of the world" then wandering back to the Mojave to fight at Hoover Dam. It would make a lot more sense for this to be what happens to the Courier after they have finished with New Vegas and carried on with their lives.

I am not suggesting that it will be like Broken Steel where you can then wander around as you like afterwards, I am thinking more along the lines of "Awakenings" in the Bioware game Dragon Age: Origins, where it carries on the main story, but has it's own ending, almost like adding another final chapter in a book.

Does anybody else agree?

I'd say it's a possibility. This ending seems way more epic than the original NV ending, so I could see that happening.

I hope it does extend the game after Hoover up until you fight/talk to Ulyssess. I mean, it would make sense to begin personal and end personal.

Read the first line.

I am not about the DLC's specifically, I am discussing the game and it's ending/order.

It's discussion that revolves around DLC content, future and present.

FYI, I would love it if the last DLC took place after the game like Awakening did.

Would be cool, it does seem like were leading up to something big for a grand finale.

Did notice that when I finished Dead Money again a few days ago that's been rolling around in my head since then.
would be awesome if it continued after the Hoover dam.
a good guess by the edge of the earth could mean the west coast and "The Divide" could mean the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range or Death Valley but the increase in altitude on the in the area of the western Nav point would point more to Mountains but if you look beyond the wrecked bus it kinda looks like what you would think the entrance to Death Valley would look like.
and New Cannan sounds like a mountainous area from what you hear from the Crimson Caravan workers.

One of the endings of Dead Money
Spoiler
gives a new ending to the game and returns you to the title screen after completion of the DLC. This gives an alternative to participating in the Hoover Dam battle.
Spoiler
You joining Elijah to "wipe the slate clean."

i would like the idea honestly, like have no relation to canon, just something involving the couriers later life, like after the mojave is 'taken care of' you are on an adventure or something somewhere to take care of something (even if you choose to run vegas you can still go off adventuring)

2 couriers fighting over their relationship is not as epic as 2 armies fighting over a Dam.

It doesn't state anywhere that it is only the two couriers who are fighting, and personally I'd say yes it is anyway, unless you are going by the dictionary definition of "epic" rather than the general use of the word.

I am not sure if I am in the minority here, but I found the final battle in New Vegas to be somewhat lacklustre, it didn't feel particularly "epic" to me at all, although that's mainly due to the design choices in the battle rather than the idea of fighting over the dam itself.

Well it would depend on what kinda relationship and past history Courier Six and Ulysses had.
The fight at the dam was just a bunch of generic soldiers running around with a lot of bang bang boom pow.
Depending on how they handle the story with Ulysses the fight there might be far more epic than a bunch of grown up kids wacking sticks at each other. (NCR&Legion)

The Dam was a battle of epic proportions. Of course there's no depth to a bunch of soldiers following orders.

Still, for the moment anyway, I can't see the battle between the couriers being all that great. Either it'll be a simple fight like with Lanius, or will involve complicated traps and puzzles, like with Elijah. No matter what, people will complain about it.

I'm hoping for an expansion with substantial area outside of the Mojave that takes place after Hoover Dam, because that doesn't invalidate the ending of New Vegas and I don't like all of my adventures delaying the battle so much. It's almost April 2282 in my current playthrough, and rangers were saying "before the year's out..." in 2281. If there are 3 more DLCs and whatever mods come out, it could be 2283 when the battle happens, and that just isn't believable.

I agreed.

If this event happens before second battle of Hover Dam, it does not sound nice. I really hope it will be the grand final.

About the battle, perhaps when player side with certain faction, Ulysses is side with another and both of them lead armies to fight against each other :flamethrower:

this is actually doeble, and not farfetched at all, Honest Heart could easelly make the conection point and if all the DLC's will hapen outside the main map our new adventures would not change the oucome of our choises, i like this tho it woun't hapen :goodjob:

If I understand what they hint at in DM correctly.......the DLCs are the real story. We have to pay them more to find out who the courier is and what his/her real role in the world is.

Just because they have an overarching story in the DLCs doesn't mean it is the "real" story, it means they have a good idea. They wouldn't do anything beyond referencing the other DLCs in each DLC though, because for them to not screw over sales, the player has to be able to play any of them in any order and have it make sense.

If it ends up like Awakening i'd be pleased seeing that it ends, but if its BS I will [censored] rip the heart out of Bethesda's main body.

What if the Battle at the Divide is the ending and the battle for Hoover Dam is just a place holder? Like how the B.O.S. said that Elijah abandoned them during the Helios 1 fiasco and everybody thought that he was killed or whatever. With the new Divide ending we would be able to play the game after the events of Hoover Dam but on a scale that wouldn't effect everyone and everything. In the end of FO3 if you used the FEV thing on Project Purity all the SMs Ghouls and pretty much everyone else was dead. But with Broken Steel the after math of the events weren't seen on as large a scale as everyone expected.

I'd like it as an epiolog, and the "pokemon" faction thing is an awesome idea!
