Skyrim (official) HD Textures - Wrye - track conflicts.

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 1:36 am

HI all,

Coming back to Skyrim after some time away, Had a nice modded game , solid and stable (Longest straight run was 19 hours). And with over 500 hours still decided to Start over with mods instead of trying to Update everything. Am having a hard time recalling what i did to have the Official HD textures inside Wrye and tracking the conflicts?

My mind is telling me i have to......

A... Extract all 3 HD packs.

B... Combine them into a few 7.zip files. (min 2 because , all 3 would be over 4 GB in size?)

C... Still leave the Official BSA's in the Data folder but unchecked?

D.... Remove the ESP's for all 3?

Think C) was because steam will keep downloading them if i remove them from the Data folder?

And D) was one of the reasons to do this...it frees up 3 slots.

I make installers for Wrye, out of everything i install to the game , this way i can see all conflicts, and well just because i am totally OCD...lol. Just having a time wrapping my head around what I actually did the first time around. I wasn't thinking when i nuked my install and let steam download everything again, (my bad), could have looked around a bit before everything was gone...lol.

Yes this is just so I can have the HD packs on the installer tab in Wrye. Then i can install them, and Wrye can track all conflicts. Right now they are in my game and Wrye doesn't know anything about them.

And since your here anyway does anyone know of the best place to read up on what mods are must have and what mods are "Do not touch".

Play style...

I wont fast Travel ( I will Walk till i get a horse)

Will have a home everywhere. ( I even made my own ).

unless i really need the money i keep tons of stuff. Last save from second play-thru, ended at 230 hrs and was 15 MB.

I usually play Sword n Magic.

Thanks for stopping in even if you don't post...lol

Confused.

A and B is all. You can actually remove the bsas and esps as C and D are not necessary once you've done A and B.

A google search pointed me to this?...Unofficial High Resolution Patch.esp

BSA opt keeps stopping on a file called.."placeholder.txt".....skipping...but what is that??

Steam will download them again when you verify game files and you're online.

Personally, I always play with Steam offline...

So keep them somewhere and copy them back to data whenever you need to verify files.

The patch does fix some bad textures and such. If you extract them. be sure load install them after the official hd textures to overwrite.

Don't know about the placeholder.txt, but if it's skipped, I wouldn't worry about it.

This one's only necessary (the "multiple archives" part) if you're using an older filesystem, like FAT32. Biggest files allowed in FAT32 is 4GB. Unless you're storing the archives on an external hard drive (which sometimes are formatted in FAT32), chances are you have NTFS running for your filesystem, so no need to split the 7zip up (unless you really want to). Fun fact, NTFS supports files up to ~16 exabytes in size (that's 1048576 terabytes).

Wow...Glad you posted that as, Extracted =7.74 GB (8,311,078,911 bytes) and i would have split that. Sweet now i only have to have one file!
