Upgrade regular Skyrim with Legendary Edition?

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 3:17 pm

Hi,

My brother has regular Skyrim, UK retail boxed, and he wants the three DLCs, and we can get the Legendary Edition (again retail boxed) cheaper than buying the DLCs seperately.

So the question is - can you use the Legendary Edition to 'upgrade' regular Skyrim to get the DLCs? If so, how exactly is this done - can you just put in the new Legendary serial code on steam, restart steam and have it download the DLCs automatically? Or do you need to uninstall the game and then reinstall from the disc in the Legendary box?

Just to be clear my brother already has Skyrim installed, with lots of mods, and is already half way through a playthrough, and doesn't want to delete it and have to reinstall all the mods.

Thanks,

Simon.

Just activate the new legendary key, it should activate all the DLC's.

In the Steam client, at the top menu, click Games, "Activate a Product on Steam...", punch in your key, and it'll add it to your library.

If it doesn't, contact Steam support.

I think you will encounter one of those "You already own this game" scenarios on Steam. Bundled things can't be separated either. So if you already have Skyrim on an account the fact that the bundle carries Skyrim will prevent the game from being activated. Unless, that is the legendary edition has separate activation codes for the DLC.

I've been doing some more searching, and this post by Bethesda seems to suggest it will work (if I'm reading it correctly, it's not very clear) -

Anyway, I've ordered it now so we'll find out next week. Fingers crossed.

if you do the install from the disk, it should just overwrite whatever is currently there, and add the new content. Steam will want its activation codes, I should guess.... but, should work just fine.
