Spawning too much freezes Skyrim

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 6:41 am

Well, not suprising of course but I'd like to know why.

Obviously, it can't be related to RAM since I have 16 GB of it and Skyrim CTD's at 3.1 GB usage anyway, but it just freezes when I spawn a bit too much. A friend of mine could spawn like 5000 Goat Cheese Wheels simultaneously and then he fire storm'd them all away while recording. I'm assuming it's because my GPU is worse?

His GPU is a GTX 670 4 GB and mine's a 660 2 GB. Does it really do such a drastical difference? :P

I can't spawn anything near that amount simultaneously. I can do like 600-700 Goat Cheese Wheels before Skyrim freezes.

(Note: It does not CTD, it just freezes indefinitely while the music continues playing)

If you're doing a stress test, I'd say your PC can handle anything involving a lot of NPCs. 600+ on the screen at once is very rare for a mod, so yeah.

I'm fairly certain my PC will crash if I try to spawn 200+.

It's the static mods I can spawn plenty of. I'm sure I can do like 2500+ in increments. I can't spawn as many NPC's, though. Maybe at most 200 simultaneously fighting ones.

Not surprising at all that you crashed, you need to read up on the new(ish) memory patch. Default Skyrim has a known hard limit on the number of NPCs/actors that can be active in a cell at once, spawning more of them than this limit will lead to a crash/system lockup every single time. Gopher did a recent video on Sheson's patch that alters how memory in Skyrim is allocated, watch as he tries to do almost exactly as you tried first without and then with the memory patch and see the difference.

The video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37xAMUQc1oY&list=UU1CSCMwaDubQ4rcYCpX40Eg&feature=c4-overview

Do you happen to have the texture pack that Bethesda released? I'd remove it for it caused great lag on my end. I found a better and more high deph texture pack that didn't lag at all.

I have the SKSE 1.7.0 alpha now which supposedly has sheson's fix incorporated. I'll still check the video to see how much of a difference it makes tho. Cheers. :)

Well I have it as in it's downloaded because Steam always thinks I want it. All three parts are disabled though.
