That's a fair point. I am willing to let it slide only because it is an one-off deal (as long as it stays an one-off deal). Other than that paying a sub should give the player unrestricted access to all content.

No, you made a baseless claim about how the costs of running an MMO are negligible which is a common meme / fallacy floating around the dumb parts of the internet. The fact is what I stated is true, it costs more money to run an MMO than it does to run a single player, single release RPG.
If you were aware of them, then you'd know that giving an edge, whether it be time, aesthetic, or anything else... as long as it's an edge, and you can buy it with real money, that is completely [censored] out the integrity of the game for a price. People with a lot of money RL will always be able to "excel" at the game because of all of the conveniences you can buy.
Forget just the aesthetic fluff, let's look at some of the good stuff.
Let's even forget experience boosters, which are hugely game breaking because you pay real money to save you time, something many people playing simply cant do.
Let's just look at this quote directly from GW2Guru, which has 450 replies:
They basically let you convert real money into the best items in the game. If you dont see that as a problem, then we're done talking.
I am sorry but subscriptions for games is WRONG!, it is not jusitified in anyway shape or form. The game dev make millions of the game if it is good anyway. They can advertise in the login screen and get a better return without effecting the game. Let me ask the WOW players out there atm, there still is 7.6 million subscribers but the AUG report last year. Will you Swap to ESO and leave WOW behind? Or will you fork out another $15 a month so you can play both?
WOW $15 + ESO $15 + the new assasins + the new hitman + the Reaper of Souls + FiFA + XBox Live Subscription, Hold on a minute this is for ONE PERSON
Second family member add WOW $15 again + ESO $15 again + Xbox live Subscription again as they took away the family pack. This is just for one of my SON's (Who is still in school, not old enough to work and has limited free time, but enough to play some games here and there)
There are many good games MMO types that are in the market already or are being released soon, or still in production, if they all deside to start charging, What do you/we do then.
The gaming community is vast, it's has many walks of life in it, most work, or study and or have families. Also most gamers like to play more then one game, some will focus more on one or two, but still want to experience some others also.
If we look at WOW's numbers 7.6million and times it by $15 = $114,000,000 a month (for ESO its $89 AUS dollars upfront and then the $180 a year) (60 USD x 7.6million = $456,000,000 just from the sales of the game) is this really maintenance or GREED, even the megaserver wouldn't costs this much to build let alone maintain.
Its definately NOT being loyal to your followers that played the previous games you have produced, in Bethesda case the games you produced with errors and glitches everwhere, but we bought the next and the next to support your brand to support your company.
Loyalty is more the business model I would hope they adopt.
You know nobody is forcing you to play every single game that gets released, right?
Typically you only play one MMO at a time, and if you play a good MMO you can skip on most single player games.
Personally im gonna skip AC, Hitman and everything else you mentioned ([censored] games) and didnt play WoW in the first place... paying 13€ for ESO sounds perfectly fine.
If you want to play everything it makes sense you spend too much.
No its not wrong.
Subscriptions pay for what you are playing, maintaining servers, and pay developers wages who will be creating more content. You paying for the game & extending services.
The ethical problem comes when you have to pay for a game you can't play, then pay the subscription to play.
ESO Pricing is too high. Exaggerated even, $99 for a CE that barely contains any products within it that are actually worth the $99. On top of that you have the monthly subscription fee that besides IGN's paid off staff to say "WE LOVE THE SUBSCRIPTION MODEL"...it's essentially outdated and this game WILL be forced to go F2P after x months.
Keep in mind though ZeniMax isn't [censored], they're going to wait until enough people pay the monthly that they recoup their losses, break even, make some profit and THEN go F2P and create some bogus "We're going F2P for the player!" campaign.
FTP models are unlikely ever used unless subscription levels fall below a specific point affecting net-profits.
If its making that profit.....well, why go FTP?
They will likely have an in-game store for nick-nacks that don't change the gameplay in the subscription model....theres not much more FTP can offer them apart from the larger userbase. And with FTP, they would likely be forced to add game changing elements to account to the losses to subscriptions.
Unless you have a link to a creditable source that Zenimax or anyone else paid someone off, please stop posting rumors.
As strange as it might be to someone, there is a chance that someone actually likes the game and doesn't mind the subscription. Personal preferences and opinions.
Personally I wasn't going to bother with the game if it didn't have a sub. As it is, if they do go free to play, I'll quit. There are more than enough shovelware free to play games out.
You think its bad try buying it in the UK, its £49.99 here which is about $83 for the standard edition and £69.99 which is $115 for the imperial... 43% more!
Why do you have such a hard time accepting that there are people out there that LIKE the subscription model? There are many many people like myself that are thrilled about this being a sub game. We are tired of the F2P games that are nothing more than money grubbing cash grabs that remind you at every corner in the game that life would be oh so much easier if you just take out your credit card.
I don't want a gigantic neon flashing icon spoiling my UI that reminds me to go to the cash shop. I don't want a game that will have to resort to P2W tactics in order to make enough money to create new content.
Lots of people are excited about this game being a subscription model and sincerely hope they can pull it off.
Not sure why that is so hard for you to believe.
