PVP build - NB Bow or Templar Bow

Post » Mon Feb 17, 2014 3:15 pm

Hello guys, I have been a major fun of Elder scrolls since the elder scrolls 3 and was really happy I could get into this last beta weekend. Thing is, when it comes to MMOs, I mainly enjoy PVPing putting PVEing as a second thing to do whenever I am bored.

So considering only PVPing and high level gaming, what do you think is best to play with a bow? Nightblade or Templar?

Also, given your choice, how would you build it? Heavy/Medium/Light armor?

Build up health, stamina or magicka?

Thank you all for your feedback and for sharing your experiences

Bowplars have been legendary right form the word go. Excellent CC, range and debuffs, and possibly the best nuke in the game.

I disagree with the statement above, regarding the class equipping the bow. Templars are an extraordinary class, but I think a bow would yield deadlier results in the hands of a Nightblade who can carefully evaluate proximity and finish with dual wield weapon switch.

Perhaps spend your magicka bar with your close range class skills then build a perimeter between you and your target & weapon swap to the bow and unleash the stamina bar on the injured opponent. This applies to both classes, however Nightblades critial rating boosts plays a big role as a finisher; yet templar offers battle longevity through high armor ( if you choose plate ) & class abilities.

What about on high levels though? The templar seems to be good on early/mid game, but what are the useful skills that synergize with the bow in the late game (high level skills)?

I really dunno. Whereas NB seems to have pretty good stuff in late game being able to mark target and all.

Anyone care to comment on late stages of the game regarding both builds?

Not many classes will outperform a Nightblade in terms of damage-per-hit on single targets, because Mark Target is a really strong debuff. But, the Templar has 2 good stamina regen buffs (Spear Shards and Restoring Aura) which may be better for sustained damage output (not to mention those can both buff additional party members.) Also, Backlash provides a party-wide 33+% damage increase against a single target. That's more damage right there than Mark Target, because MT only affects the lone Nightblade. Backlash is also a flat damage bonus, whereas Mark Target is an armor/resistance ignore, which I'm not sure translates into a straight damage boost (maybe against heavily armored opponents.) Not to mention the danger of being 1-shot by the enemy if you happen to pull aggro while using Mark Target.

Add Snipe and Volley (or Poison Arrow for single-target fights) to those 3 skills, and you have a ranged DPS spec that doubles as group support.

I've been using DK+bow and the earthen tree line to make a supporty bard.

No mention of Templar's heals yet? A dead character does zero dps.

I played a Nightblade Bow user in beta. Mix between bow abilities and the abilities from the Siphoning tree. Ended up with a knockback, snare that increased my own speed as well, a dps attack that acts as a life steal, an AoE DoT, a ranged attack/dot that can interrupt and incapacitate casters. It is a very mobile kiting build with nice survivability and good damage overall. And the other good thing is that it spread the resources between magicka and stamina and the consumption is relatively low due to the dots.

And I have to say, I loved this build. Could handle multiple enemies at a time, and kill them before they reach me. In PvP I was deadly in 1v1. I prefer it over the Templar, because it feels more rogue'ish than the Templar. But if you are into the arcane/divine archer kinda thing, Bowplar is fine as well. I just prefer the dark feel of the Siphoning tree and the group utility it offers. And the snare/dot attack (Criple) that siphons movement speed from the enemy and gives it too you is very awsome and too good to pass up on imo. The ultimate morph is awsome for grouping. It does AoE damage, heals the rest of the group and it gives your allies a synergy, which is a high damage life steal attack.

Piercing Javelin
  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Range: 20m
  • Cost: 53 Magicka
  • Deals 12 magic damage by hurling a spear.
  • Knock target back 5 meters.
  • Morphs
    • Aurora Javelin: Deals additional damage based on distance thrown.
    • Binding Javelin: Increases knowckdown duration.

This is an amazing Templar CC that hits like a truck (especially if morphed into Aurora) It makes kiting almost a joke because you can spam it as long as you have magica.

Combined with:

Rushed Ceremony
  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Radius: 28m
  • Cost: 60 Magicka
  • Heal nearby ally for 33.
  • Morphs
    • Honor the Dead: Restore magicka when healing low health allies.
    • Breath of Life: Heals up to 3 targets.

An instant heal that does apply to the caster- will make for a very hard to kill archer with solid dps and great cc.

While

Strife
  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Range: 28m
  • Cost: 35 Magicka
  • Deals 18 magic damage.
  • For 10 seconds...
    • Caster is healed for 30% of damage done every 2 seconds.
  • Morphs
    • Funnel Health: An ally is also healed.
    • Swallow Soul: +7% healing received (slotted passive).

And

Assassin's Blade
  • Cast Time: Instant
  • Range: 5m
  • Cost: 25 Magicka
  • Deals 14 magic damage.
  • Targets with low health take +300% damage.
  • Morphs
    • Impact: Range increased to 15m.
    • Killer's Blade: Heal 15% of maximum health when killing enemy with this ability.

Morphed into Impact make a very potent archer with DoT heals and an amazing finisher that does up to 300% damage at 15 meter range and is an instant ability.

They are both very strong. I am still torn as to which one I am going to play.

Did you also try the templar with a bow and could compare with your experience with the NB?

But this is early game as these skills can be gotten really early? What about end game/high level skills?

No I didn't, but all I know was I loved my build and it was definately succesful. But like Sparhawk said, the Bowplar is also very awsome with a similar playstyle. I guess the templar has more ranged burst and also acces to a full on heal, but the Nightblade has more DoTs and lifesteal attacks plus the best snare in the game (imo).

The choice is yours and more importantly: Which class sounds/feels best for you.
