cash shop - what is acceptable?

Post » Mon Feb 17, 2014 5:24 pm

see? this is the point where it no longer becomes a game. after you see some one walk by with items u know for FACT are just too nice to pass up and u want that item

special unique robe of azura hand crafted by khajiit that is extreme rare and uknow your wife will kill u to buy for her, or special stuff like that it's now become an addiction because once a month we will start seeing these things pop up all over the placeallways some new wonderfull glittery glorious thing that u MUST HAVE

u mention that is a personal problem, but i sdont see it that way at all. its marketing and disturbing. game breaking to have a cash shop when its allready im paying subscription and i should be able to craft that item ingame.

There is nothing wrong with a cash shop, as long as they're only cosmetic items. Outfits, hair styles and stuff like that.

Only time it gets serious is when they start adding in game benefits to the game, people like me. Love showing off the hard work we have put into our characters, and if you can buy that from some cash shop cause your pockets are deep, then what is the point to even play

I pretty much agree with all of these, especially the play any race in any alliance. I like that it is a bonus for early adopters and will be upset if it is offered after the game has launched.

You already has quest specific disguise in the game. Some who is just an full body armor other changes how you look. They go into the disguise slot so you only have one

FYI: It was commented that the "choice of words" wasn't exactly great and by "cash shop" Frior only meant service things like name changes. Of course that is subject to change, just thought I'd point it out so people don't take the "cash shop" terminology to literal.

Hm... You do have a point.

I don't think it is unfair because I think people that put enough fate in the game to buy it before it is ready deserve to have something exclusive and relevant. Also, the game is advertised as having alliance locks, so anybody willing to buy it later would know that that's how the game is. However, I see how that can hurt the sales later on, and I really want to see this game to be a success. I never rooted so badly for a game before.

The only thing I ever want to see on ESO's "Cash shop" is:

1. Name changes

2. Server transfers (shouldnt be needed with the megaserver option)

3. Gender or Race changes

4. Faction transfer, but only if you qualify by having preordered (already have to have any race-any faction unlocked, not available to others, in order to keep the transferring to a minimum).

No fluff items, no cosmetic items, certainly no statted items and definitely no new classes, power sets, abilities, gear sets, or zone unlocks.

Personally I would not mind a CS if everything in the shop could be bought with either real money or game money.

Like a really swanky look for platemail (Basically a set of armor with pretty ordinary lvl 1 stats that could be transmogrified with your existing armor to give you that look) could cost 30 CS tokens or 30000 gold.

Or a 1 hour 2x XP booster that costs 1 CS token or 1000 gold.

For this to work there would have to be a "luxury trader" NPC in each faction's capital so that you can buy the items in game. (having a CS button in the UI just looks ugly.)

Name changes, appearance changes and outfit/weapon styles. Fancy barding for your horse.

This would be a good solution, even though I still prefer no cash shop at all. If the price is fixed, even better. Having gold-token conversion based on demand, like GW2, is awful. Token-gold conversion is ever worse, since it is essentially buying gold. Gold ends up being worth nothing. If a popular item is added to the store, the value of the token skyrockets and the value of the gold plummets >.<

Everyone will be able to upgrade to Imperial at any time IIRC, but any race/any faction is only for those who preordered. I'm fine with that. I'm glad we won't have the factions overly mixed up, as that would mess with lore and identity. It would also look like a ripoff for the people who did if they offer it to others.

Changing names, sure. Changing factions, only if you change your race too. Changing the look of the toon, sure. Anything else is going too far, in my opinion. Though I expect there will be some mounts and/or pets I'd prefer there weren't.
