Best F2P MMO

Post » Tue Feb 18, 2014 2:04 pm

Now I know this isn't really ESO related, but I'm new to MMOs and I played the beta for ESO and really liked it and figured that other people who liked it would be on the forums for the game. If other people liked it and are on this forum, they must like similar stuff to me. So that means they could answer this question for me (dat logic): What is the best F2P MMO? Since I liked ESO so much, I probably like MMOs too. I am currently a level 13 on WoW starter edition, but am not planning on paying the monthly fee. I just want something I can play to hold me off until June for the console release of ESO. Keep in mind I do not have a gaming PC. So what is your favorite/recommended F2P MMO?

Thanks for reading!

GuildWars/GuildWars 2. Though they are Buy to Play (B2P), it is in my eyes F2P because you do not pay a sub :)

Neverwinter is decent and free. Had similar controls and mechanics that ESO has .. linear PvE and instance PvP. Level 60 less than month, now work on End Game Gear.

I haven't played anything else recently .. on PC that is.

There is no good F2P MMO ...

There are story driven F2P mmo's like... I don't know Star Wars The Old Republic ( you can play the full story through with out paying a dime ) as a

example but there are just no "Good" Free-to-Play mmo's - there are time sinks f.e. ABP ( Steam look it up from there. ), you might even enjoy AoC ( also from Steam ).. What else... I think others can also direct towards different games - depends what are you looking from the game.

I don't know any good f2p games, but if you are willing to pay the box price I recommend GW2. It is buy-to-play with a cosmetic/convenience/service cash shop (with gold-token and token-gold conversion). The main city is going to be destroyed tomorrow, so you better hurry.

Rift, LOTRO you need to pay once you reach around level 20 to unlock more quest.

Rift you're pretty much free to do what ever, baring expansion packs, while you can only have a limited number of bags, everything else is free. You can even buy several cash store items with in game gold.

AION, Rift, FF14, Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, Star Trek Online, Perfect World the list goes on and on. You might want to visit mmorpg.com they usually have quite the comprehensive list :)

Only downside I've found in F2P games is either theirs no story (just a grind fest) or its free to play but pay to win :( which makes me sad as this isn't fair on gamers. God help us when they start having it where you can "rent" gun packs for Battlefield//Call of Duty.

Worst feature I've found in cash shop games is when you've gotta buy "keys" to unlock in game chests etc

Rift is pretty good and I do enjoy it, but as it is F2P, you get what you pay for. The last patch had a few issues and the servers have gone down practically every day since last Wednesday.

This is the reason I would rather have a sub in a game. Content updates, dedicated people that listen to gamers, and less obnoxious players in game.

Thanks for all the posts! If anyone has a specific reason for playing a specific MMO, I'd love to read it!

I love SWTOR but I sub. The F2P restrictions on it were so debilitating it was keeping me from enjoying the game. However, the stories are worth going through it F2P if you are star wars fan. Just get in decent guild and get help when you need it.

I'd say Star Trek online. It's not your usual MMO, you have a Ship and you have a Ground team, and it's pretty cool, even if you play once a week or so.

I used to play a game called 4story. It looks just like WoW.

Final Fantasy 14 is F2P?

Is the Secret World any good? I already own a copy so it's not a question of picking it up, I just want to know if it's actually worth investing any time in.
