If I read a skill book that doesn't grant me the bonus (because my current skill level is too high), if I later take that skill as Legendary, will the skill book then work, or is its skill bonus used up from the first reading, even though I didn't get the bonus?

Once it is read,it will not grant a skill level if you Legendary...if you want to save it for later,have a follower pick it up.
