Dunmer should look more like they do in Skyrim!

Post » Tue Feb 18, 2014 9:57 pm

Okay so I've played a couple of betas on ESO and it's awesome but one thing bothers me about character creation - Why do Dunmer look like they did in oblivion as apposed to that of Skyrim?! In Morrowind, they looked awesome. In oblivion, they were basically imperials with blue skin and red eyes. THEN in skyrim they looked like PROPER dunmer again, with angular features and (this may seem finnicky but I've always noticed it), their eyes are black with red iris'. In ESO, this isn't an option and it just seems like a massive step backwards in terms of customisation to me, all be it a subtle one.

People like pretty characters. It's just the way it is. I liked the skyrim Dunmer, but I like what I've seen of ESO ones too.

Yeah it's this ^

Most people like to look good and not ugly at all.

I personally used a modified version of the elves, I understand they're not supposed to be human with pointy ears, but they shouldn't be aliens from the movie predator either lol.

In my opinion, the male dunmer in skyrim were extremely ugly. NOT due to angular features and such(I liked that morrowind feel of how they looked) but there eyes. they were just... Horrifyingly ugly. if they tweaked the eyes a bit they would have been so much better. and there is an option for angular face in char creation by the way.

If I remember correctly there's a slider (triangle rather) for facial structure, and angular corresponds to one of the points. Doesn't that remedy the problem, at least partially?

I think only if they're ugly in real life, or I guess it's more accurate to say if they feel ugly.

I'm quite happy that I'm well and truly pretty enough irl so I like to play ugly brutish orcs. My insecurity might be that I'm not rugged and beastly enough, too pretty. I would never want to create a really handsome character.

I think I look nice irl as well *points to avatar* but always make the prettiest character I can make out of the race I'm working with. I even make my Orc look pretty, so not sure how you figure it's making up for something they don't have irl.

People in my experience like to look good whether it's in person, or in a game, though people have differing ideas of what makes something "good".

I prefer TESO dark elves, you can make them look really bad ass in there as well as pretty. But in skyrim, all the dark elves looked like crack heads that have been on a 96 hour no sleep drug binge.

To me it's also about creating a character I can appreciate it's not about making it handsome or ugly it's about my personal preference but if I was to either choose from the two I'd choose a handsome character mainly because I'm going to be playing that character for a very long time so I'm going to have to look at it constantly and if I'm having regrets about the way my character looks I'm going to put them to the chopping block and start again, That's just the way I am.

When you pan the camera around in a game you'll notice most people made something quite presentable, and some people craft their characters with real flair (using unusual hairstyles and colours, and making their character look really tall and broad-shouldered etc). It's because our character is generally the way people will first meet us in game and we want to look whatever our version of "cool" "pretty" or "impressive" is. For me I like to have pretty characters. Other people might like their character to be amusing, or awesome, etc. Not many people want to look simply ugly though.

A race that only can have really angular features and would always look a bit spacky would probably just end up being really unpopular, so the devs probably made sure there would be a more moderate range of features for this race so people wouldn't immediately be put off.

There's actually something handsome about rugged orcs. Some of the most 'handsome' men happen to look quite odd, I'd say. Hugh Laurie, Gerard Depardieu, for example, aren't men you'd consider handsome yet somehow they are. They have many female followers.

As for your first sentence, I think you're assuming too much. I like my characters handsome / beautiful and I'm quite certain I look good and fit myself as well. But there maybe some more subtler factors at work yet everybody's an individual case.

I agree I think the Dunmer in Oblivion looked absolutely awful, I feel you have to try pretty hard to get them to look that bad in ESO. The only thing I think they need to add is Dunmer-only adornment options that include multiple earings like they had in Morrowind.
