my concerns about the orcs skin tones

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 12:19 pm

Hello there, first of all im not sure if this forum is the proper one for such a thread, if it is not then it would be appriciated if someone could direct me somewhere that it is. In any case, i have already posted a similar post on the facebook page but since there are so many posts there, well i though that my wishes and concerns could be better heard over here

I have played the game in the last open beta session and i noticed that even though you can get a descent looking orc at least 8 out of the 20 skin tone choices are nothing more than actual human skin tones, whitch they dont fit the orcs at all. In many games including the elder scrolls series (brown skinned orcs in skyrim) we have seen that the orcs can have many variations in skin colours ranging between brown and green mostly to light yellow-browns to even dark as well as light red-browns and greys and i think that these kind of skin colours fit the orcs way better than a pink human skin. Well if i wanted to make a character that looks like a big ugly human i would not have picked an orc to play with and even if i wanted to role-play a, lets say, half-orc i believe that 2 or maybe 3 human-like skin tones are more than enough for this purpose, at the same time we hardly get more than 4 proper orcish looking skin tone witch all of them look pretty much the same dark green-gray and maybe about 2 yellow-pinks with a green tilt in them (if i remember correct, since its been more than a week since then). I really hope this can and will change before release, orcs are my favorite race and i will propably roll one as my main character, so my wishes are that this ridiculous number of human-like skin tones will be replaced by more proper looking orcish skintones like the ones im talking about above. I also think that the orcs tusks look a bit small but this could be just me. Anyway leave your opinion on the matter and lets hope that if im not the only one thinking that the orc skin tones are wrong, our voices might be heard, Make the orcs look like orcs!

While similar, I like to think of Orcs in TES as being unique to what one may find in other games.

Keep it different and distance the experience from the others as much as possible.

I also reported that in my beta feedback. Right now, Orc Skin tones are lore breaking :( In Oblivion and Skyrim, I always reminder them being a shade of green. (Besides the half Orc and Half Vampire Arena Champ)

Not being green wouldn't bother me too much. Green orcs were a Warhammer invention that caught on, so I don't hold it as a hard and fast rule.

It would be a minor departure from the established art direction of past games, though. The lack of crystalline structures in Alinor concerns me more.
