Yeah, summoning looked pretty useless in PvP, other than that. How can I feel like a bad ass when I can't even summon Atronachs, let alone Dremora lords...

For what its worth though, the Storm Atronoch is pretty good. Its just the normal pets that svck.
I wish they added the traditional summons of Oblivion & Skyrim: fire atronach, frost atronach, then storm atronach. Make it start out as fire and force people to morph it 2 times to get to storm atronach. Make it still cost 5% of your total mana but improve the damage and abilities slightly.
I do not think that it should be useless in PvP but also, people shouldnt be letting their pets carry them in PvE either. IMHO.
I was excited to use Clanfear and Scamps as a Conjurer, but everyone having these hideous pinkish/purple daedra is really ugly.

Why can't they just give us normally textured daedra, or at least something more appealing then BRIGHT pink??
What about summoning Dremora Warriors? I wish that was your top conjuration ultimate to be honest - or even daedroths.
The summon armor isn't enough like TES
The summon weapon of your choice is missing in action
If they had summon weapon of your choice +summon armor that was more in line with previous TES then I would level up summon familiar till I got winged twilight and be happy
that's only 3 slots leaving 2 + ultimate
more than enough.
But it's a demon monkey. How can you not like it?
If you faced summoner npc in TES you ignored the summons and tried to make it to the mage to kill him same in PvP.
The only reason to handle the summon first would be if it was both far more dangerous and easier to kill than the sorcerer himself, as killing him will also remove the summon.
The only benefit is the small extra damage they do.
In PvE single player they has some use, they do some tanking but they loose argo pretty easy. might be best to use cc+ staff attacks if you want the clanfear to keep agro.
However if you pull groups of enemies its real useful as it will tank the enemies you don't fight. I have not tried the winged twilight.
But PvP or groups I would not recommend them
