Well if your going on vacation, you don't ( generally) do that in your own back yard... so for me something opposite where I live. But The Rift and The Reach both are good exploring and hunting area's.
There is a alchemist with an alchemy lab out in open, in the wild, somewhere in the Reach. I came across it long ago and haven't bumped into it since.
Blackreach. Just avoid everything trying to kill you. Basically like going to an underground, darker Australia.
The Reach is my absolute favorite area, beautiful and awe-inspiring and tons of secrets to find, go there. Would totally live in Markarth if I wasn't afraid my daughter would get hurt and the fact that it is full of corrupt mother
Yeah, absolutely don't mind the crazy bretons trying to cut you up like a fish for only looking in their general direction.
Lol, I don't take it personally. To be fair, a crazy Breton, Nord, or Orc is always trying to cut me up no matter where I am. Intermixed with being mauled by the wildlife. Just another day in Skyrim.
I too agree with Michael's recommendation of the Forgotten Vale. I just saw it last week for the first time and I was astounded by the place. I actually got lost. I don't remember the last time I got lost in this game. It's now one of my all-time favorite Skyrim regions.
The Reach. A lot of those craggy peaks are accessible and hide secrets, if you can find the way up.
The same is true of Solstheim, to some extent.
I'd add the Eldergleam Sanctuary as one of they're vacation stops.
The Rift.
Camp by the glistening Lakes or near the Dragon Mound.
As you sustain periodic attacks by demented remote-controlled fauna from Autumnshade Clearings.
Watch the moon(s)/planetoids rise over Faldar's Tooth.
As you undergo continual beatings from hateful and hate-filled alliances between bears, spiders and flipping sorcerers.
The latter attempting to conjure your naughty bits into the middle of next week.
