Xbox One needs Gold but PS4 does not need PS Plus?

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 4:54 pm

Words cannot express how furious I feel. I have read previously on numerous websites that Bethesda was working on negotiating a deal with Microsoft to not require Gold membership to play The Elder Scrolls Online while not working at all with Sony. Now as I logged in on my laptop, I just read again from numerous outlets that as of January 28th, 2014, an official announcement came that Bethesda did a 180! They now say that with Sony's PS4, you will NOT, repeat, NOT require PS Plus to play The Elder Scrolls Online while you WILL, repeat, WILL need Gold on Xbox One in addition to the $15 a month fee. I only bought an Xbox One based on the first news announcement since I do not play online with other gamers. Now that I'm more than $500 in the hole, I read this betrayal of trust in us, the players. To any critics of playing online gaming I say this; I bought Battlefield 2 on PC not knowing it was an online-only game until after I installed it. Since Gamestop does not accept returns on any PC games, I made the best of it and played it. Low and behold with the few weeks I did play with the game I was in complete and utter shock at the comments.

I originally thought that the text comments would all be related to the gameplay but no. Instead, insults and profanity everywhere. I wasn't even wearing any kind of headset instead thinking I was watching an episode of South Park. Once, I blamed a fellow player for causing my death after I died from a tripwire explosive he placed. He/She in turn, called me an A-hole. I followed suit saying that was uncalled for and he then called me the N-word. Jesus! That experience alone turned me off from online gaming forever. That being said I have no intentions of ever buying Gold so imagine how angry I am. I mean I pretty much believe I bought the wrong console even before this second announcement but this officially puts the nail in the coffin. So now after buying Ryse, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Ghosts, Zoo Tycoon, Dead Rising 3, Assassins Creed 4 and Tomb Raider, I have to trade all these things in along with the cruddy ''all in one'' whopping $500 piece of black **** and probably get a fraction of my initial investment. Granted I work, I have a well-paying job but to play with the customers like that and all is just rather annoying. We are in a recession people! Every dollar counts! And since there is no way in **** I am shelling out $60 a year just to play one game that I already have to pay $15 a month for.

Sorry for ranting and all but I felt my voice had to be heard. I'll bet I'm not the only one who made the same buy with false information. And as a side note I must say that I haven't even seen a PS4 in action but based on my experiences and all the gossip on the www, go Sony! Not to mention my Xbox One hard drive is already 52.5% full and I also read they do NOT support external hard drives? WTF? Even if I give in and go Gold and stick with my Xbox One, there is not a snowball's chance in **** I will have enough space by the time The Elder Scrolls Online comes out. I'll admit I wasn't impressed with Oblivion but Skyrim took me by complete surprise. I was addicted to it for months if not years and was very looking forward to the next installment. I'm willing to pay the $15 a month fee, that's not the issue here. I just feel Pete Hines shouldn't tweet information regarding something so important unless it's factual. Is anyone else here feeling the same way? I was actually surprised to see no one did a similar topic like this since the January 28th news hit the web. I am a serious single player person. I can only imagine how bad the cursing amongst other things goes on when people wear headsets yet the texts in my case were bad enough.

ZOS/Beth did no such 180. They had been negotiating with both Sony and MS. Sony agreed and dropped the fee. MS did. It is all on MS, not on ZOS/Beth.

Don't see a problem here even if you get it for PC you still pay for gold unless you like losing money and purchase your membership one month at a time

Blame Microsoft, bro. I can't think of a single game that they waived the Xbox Live fee for. Sony, on the other hand, clearly said before the PS4 even launched that it would be up to the game publishers as to whether their games would require the PS+ subscription.

i love how people come to this forum to complain about it when these devs have no control over it. you need to hit up the microsoft forums and ask them why sony cares more about their players than microsoft does

I am sure that the devs negotiated with both groups. in the end, sony agreed while Microsoft said "nah".

I think you miss the point of the tweet that the keyword is 'negotiating' which may or may not succeed and in this cased, failed because M$ is just being, well, M$.

It is Microsoft's decision to require Live Gold. Zenimax has no control over it. They can make requests of MS but it is MS decision.

Blame them.

The ONLY time this should even be considered an issue is if you spent $500 on an Xbox One, $60 on the game and are spending $15/month on a sub for ESO. If, after all that, you have an issue with paying approx. $4/month for Xbox Live then I don't know what to tell you. I've seen this argument before and it's pretty ridiculous IMO. You have a "well paying job" and yet $4/month has put you over the edge? Come on man!

Ouch. You might have been better off building a low to mid range computer.

in terms of customer relationship. However, PS4 still doesn't have much games on their system yet compare to Xbox One. TBH, both are not worth to buy atm with limited games.

I pay yearly for Xbox live.

We(boyfriend and I) do not play Xbox games online.

BUT

There are some services that we *do* use that require Live. Youtube, HBO Go, etc.

I'm sure the OP will be able to find better success just calling up Micro$oft on it since the decision is ENTIRELY on their hands.
