I was just wondering what would be a good starting char, melee, ranged, our magic?

They're all viable - melee and stealth moreso than pure magic (unmodded), but magic complements other builds quite well.

I think melee is a good starter into Skyrim.

Melee is a good starting style, Orc, Nord , Reguard or Imperial.... though any race is fine.

Man I envy you. Anyway melee is wicked fun but if you want to do more magic just find a trainer and level up. It's all good.

Try all three see which suits you.

Me I prefer ranged... though played melee and mages enough to know they work well too (even before I modded out magic some)

Melee is the easiest to pick up and play, magic takes some understanding to know how to make the most out of it and archery is the strongest skill of them all if you're sneaky.

ha this is what I was thinking, nothing like that first time feeling after anticipating its arrival for so long...I had a nerdgasm when I first heard the theme and the game was loading :P

For first timer I suggest melee.

It is the easiest to play. when you get a grip about the game system you can try other build.

Do not try mage if this is your first time in TES especially in RPG.

If I may add, make sure you have a ranged attack alongside your melee attacks. It can Archery or Magic, but there are creatures that like to fly about, breathing fire on everyone. You'll need some way to hit them as they do that :)

I recommend you not to check the internet about Skyrim. Maybe the lore a bit, but not things that'll spoil your game. Like: "Is perk X good or bad?" "How do I start quest X?" "How to get a lot of money?" "Is follower X strong or weak? "

Play Skyrim for a few 100 hours, and maybe go to the internet. It'll ruin the fun. The Skyrim forum is always active. The most important is to enjoy the game. Just a little advice.

And try a jack of all trades ;) Use whatever you want to use and don't stay archetype based for your first character. Do you want to use a blade at this moment? Use a blade. Want to burn something? Use your flames. ;)
