Editing .esps

Post » Sun May 02, 2010 9:26 pm

So I'm trying to alter a set of DT values within the GECK by opening up a .esp I downloaded from the Nexus, but I cannot get the GECK the save the changes I've made successfully.

Here is what I'm doing:

1) Opening GECK, setting one .esp to active.
2) Editing the DT and AR values of a few armors (power armor).
3) Editing the effects of a couple armors to increase strength to a higher level.
4) Saving the file.

When I load the game, my changes have been saved and are used by the game but all of the scripts attached to the items by the original mod no longer work. When I load up the .esp in the GECK, I find that all the scripts (AdvReconHelmet) are no longer attached to any of the items...and all the armor that the mod added has been deleted/lost.

Is there a better way to edit the .esps? I just want to use a nightvision mod and edit the DT values...but this has been a lot harder than I anticipated.

I'm trying to modify this mod: Advanced Recon Stealth Gear - Thermal Nightvision

Located http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34683

I can get the mod to work, but as soon as I go into the GECK and change some of the armor values...the NV doesn't work anymore. Seems like the scripts aren't being saved and the master .esp resource is no longer associated with the .esp.

I must not be saving it correctly...

Maybe I have to make both .esps active...

Testing that...

Went in and marked the recon gear and recon gear -power armor .esps as active...

Still doesn't save the scripts originally associated with the items (or any of the items added by the mod).

I've tried to look through and find the script (AdvReconHelmet) in the saved .esp but it isn't there.

Can anyone point me to where I've gone wrong?
