How do you feel about Skyrim's soundtrack?

Post » Fri Feb 21, 2014 2:30 am

Something that seldom gets represented in its on thread on the forums, the soundtrack for me is just as important as the games content.. Sometimes more so in my opinion. Oblivion's soundtrack has to be my favourite, and although I enjoy Skyrim's to a great degree, nothing can ever replace the nostalgia I feel when I hear Oblivion's compositions.

However, I think the soundtrack for Skyrim did a fantastic job of merely enhancing the experience, adding to it. Whereas Oblivion's tended to take charge, and demand an appreciation of its own. Feel free to share your favourite selections from Skyrim's soundtrack Harry, I for one would be thrilled to see your personal favourites!

In conclusion. I enjoy Skyrim's soundtrack, but I'm not overly fond of it. How about you?

Also! If anyone has translations for the chanting we hear in some of the compositions, (not the main theme) I would be thrilled to read them.

I don't like music but I enjoy listening to TES stuff especially Sovngarde, Main Theme and Tale Of The Tongues.

I picked the last option.

... Tbh I only remember the sovngarde song... so I guess that means I didn't like it.

I usually just listen to other music while playing.

Always turn it off. For me it is immersion-breaking.

In the realm of game soundtracks, Skyrim's is top-notch. A pinnacle for the series, and rivaled only by the likes of Nier or Chrono Cross in my eyes.

Immersion-breaking to hear beautiful music while you play? I don't understand.

I think JS did a fantastic job of merely complimenting the experience, rather than overtaking it.

Well yeah it might be nice music but in the "real" world of Skyrim you wouldn't hear it playin' would ya?

I love the soundtrack (voted the first choice). Here's why:

And the best for last, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPWVfCtnGyg.

I had to make some tough choices to keep from getting too carried away :)

When I read my books, I throw in my Skyrim CDs for background music :)

I turned it off long ago, but I quite liked it when I still listened to it.

My favorites: Ancient Stones, Far Horizons, Secunda, The Streets of Whiterun, Wind Guide You. Oh, and everything stolen from the previous titles. :hehe: Like The Jerall Mountains or The Road Most Traveled.

Yup, it's easily the best Skyrim song.

I thought Skyrim's music was the most uneven of the last three games.

On the one hand, it has my favorite exploring music ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhJTMeytTWw On the other hand, its theme song is, in my opinion, the worst theme of any game I can remember playing in the last ten years. The simian grunting of that male choir is laughable, it's unintentionally hilarious.

So my verdict is ambivalent: not the worst but not best either.

To each their own. I happen to like the theme song. The male chorus, which you think are a bunch apes grunting, gives me a feel for the obvious Nordic slant to the game. I think it set the mood just right for me, personally. But if someone ignores setting and just wants "pretty violins and oboes", then they will be disappointed, even laughing at the work.

I'm the same as you Hagrid, except replace Oblivion with Morrowind and it fits me perfectly.

At first I was meh....

Then I realised how much it truly svcked when the main theme started any time a dragon attacked.

it's not the main theme. it's a song called watch the skies.

or is that the other dragon fighting song.

I know it's not the main theme anyway.

I have to agree, the main theme did absolutely nothing for me.

The music was meh. Then I downloaded Fantasy Music Overhaul and used a .esp that only play the music from the overhaul.

I really like the music. Some of the peaceful melodies remind me of Guild Wars pre-Charr invasion when your newby character is exploring around Lion's Arch and all that.

I also installed some music mods from nexus that added music to the library so I have a nice list and hardly hear the same some twice.

Now I do dislike the horror show music that starts up when your near a cave or crypt but did not go inside. And battle music. Sometimes it starts up when there is nothing to fight or the enemy is dead.

I love it. Part of it reprises the theme music from Morrowind (still one of my favourite theme songs) but with its own character. I'm fine with the music variations too as they take us through different states of mind, from wistfulness to grand heroism.

It's...okay.

To be honest I never found the Elder Scrolls music that memorable save for a few select tracks. I suppose it serves its purpose well enough, though.

If only it were as easy to add music to Skyrim as it was with the past games. Just dump a few MP3's into the right folders and you're done, but nope. Gotta make things complicated to have music that's actually awesome.

The exploration soundtrack is good and worthy of ES but not as good as in Oblivion and Morrowind. It just doesn't immerse as much and is not as memmorable. Also it doesn't has the same fantasy genre vibe as in Oblivion and Morrowind.i don't think if i hear the Skyrim exploration and town music in several years i will have epic nostalgia feelings.

Most of the battle music and especially the Sonvergarde one however is perfect and memmorable.

Skyrim can't compare to these

However Skyrim's battle and Sovngarde themes are awesome

Alteration, yeah? Or was that Mysticism...

Anyway, I voted "some of the best music ever", because it was the closest to how I feel. I think it's an excellent piece of work and one of the best soundtracks ever. I'd rate it high, but not quite in the stratosphere, compared to general music, though.

Skyrim's soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful and really fits the scenery and various locations. I often enjoy playing Skyrim because of the ambient music, I find it strangely soothing.

Irrespective of what you think of Skyrim as a game, and an RPG, it's soundtrack and artistic design is of the highest quality. It would get my vote as the my favourite game soundtrack ever if it weren't for Mass Effect 2, which is an absolute masterpiece.

I agree with those saying the combat music can be "jarring." I really don't like being "warned" that an attack is imminent. Heck, I have swung my view around from simple hawks casting a shadow :)

Also, other than Dragons, my fights are over fairly quickly and the music keeps playing, making me think there are still enemies about.
