Which Megaserver will Aussies likely play on?

Post » Sat Feb 22, 2014 8:27 am

I'm currently living in SE Asia, but I won't be playing on the Asian megaserver. I just don't fancy the language issues. But if I play on the North American servers I'm worried there will be no one to play with at the time I'm logged on. I'm wondering if some Aussies and possible Singaporean/Philippino English speakers will be playing on the North American server as well.

Any Aussie guilds out there with a plan already?

NZ here, I'll be playing on the US server, probably most of us will - tons closer ping-wise, the US server is midwest USA, should be around 200ms-250ms ping vs 350ms-400ms ping to EU server.

There won't be an asian megaserver as far as announcements have been.

Well I guess that solves that problem then... There will be people playing on the US servers at all times of the day.

only 2 megaserver, NA and EU and since NA usually have better connection, so NA server.

I could have sworn I read there'd be 3 mega servers, but that's fine by me. It sounds like I'll have plenty of people to play with. There will likely be many "late night" (in NA time zones) guilds made up of Aussies, Kiwis, and people like me.

If ESO is to have a healthy economy, it needs to have an Asian megaserver to segregate the throng of Chinese farmers from the US.

I could have sworn there was some talk about a dedicated hub or something that would make the latency for NZ/Aus lower to connect to the NA server due to being directly linked and not having to go through extra hops.

But can't for the life of me remember where :P

How would that work? Our latency is caused by distance to server, which is how long it takes data to travel through whatever cables we're being routed down (why when crossing through central USA we can get totally screwed up by crappy infrastructure). Just getting down the Southern Cross cable to West coast USA gives us a minimum 130ms ping (can't be changed). Then we'll have to travel across half of America to get to the actual server in Midwest USA (at least it's not East Coast or we might as well shoot ourselves in the face right now and save the enemy the trouble :touched:). Would this mean we don't have to get routed through extra hubs to get to the server (that would be cool).

Anyone has a link? Does sound interesting.

As I said, I read it in some Q&A but I can't for the life of me find it again.

It was explained as having a direct connection from NZ/Australia to the server park of the NA server through a hub, basically cutting down on hops, reducing the latency slightly. Wouldn't be much, but every little bit helps.

Yep, especially if it's more reliable than being routed down random hubs. +1 if they do this, we are already gimped enough :twirl:

Do we have a way to ping the servers? I don't recall that being an option in the last beta.

I believe the European servers are in Germany which I think would be a bit closer to Australia than the mid-USA geographically and wouldn't pass over as much water. But what kind of hops you would go through either way I haven't a clue.

The route you take would be horrific.

Here's a http://atlantic-cable.com/Maps/1903TelconMap.jpg from NZ to international locations. NZ can't ping to Frankfurt in less than 400ms.

Its generally better to NA than to EU for SEA and Aussie i think due to lesser hops and overall traffic in between.

Did they say the server is in the midwest? I always thought it's in the east coast, where their studio is located.

Yep they said it's getting located in the Midwest. I'd prefer the West coast but if they at least route us through some kind of controlled path then it'll at least cut down on the possibility of being sent through failing hubs.
