[PC people thread] On what setup are you playing Skyrim?

Post » Sat Feb 22, 2014 12:37 pm

Hey guys. This thread is for sharing our system specifications and to post pics of them if you want to. On what setup are you playing Skyrim? How much did it cost and did you build it yourself? I live in Sweden, so the price of computer parts is higher than in say North America.

This is my setup:

http://i.imgur.com/m3slsdE.jpg

I built it myself with the help of my little brother. It cost me around $1100 for just the PC. The monitor and stuff cost a bit too.

Specs:

Case: Fractal Design Define R4 Black

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H

CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K

CPU-cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120M w/ Corsair SP120 High-performance edition fan

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 660 TwinFrozr II 2GB OC edition

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB 1600 MHz

SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 128 GB

PSU: OCZ ZS Series 650W

HDD 1: SeaGate Barracuda 2 TB 7200 RPM

HDD 2: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB 7200 RPM

DVD burner: Samsung OEM 22x something

On-board audio

Mouse: Q-Pad 5K

Keyboard: Q-Pad MK-50 (mechanical)

Headphones: Q-Pad QH-90 White

Mousepad: SteelSeries QCK+

Monitor: Acer S222HQLCbid LED

It runs Skyrim fine on Ultra without mods, and with SMIM and the HD DLC plus other mods, it seems to be around 45 fps. Perfectly playable, imo. Building it wasn't really hard, putting everything in place is very straightforward. The wiring was pretty hard but it looks good because the FD Define R4 is very spacy!

My good old rig:

Core 2 Duo E8400

Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L

2x2GB DDR2 800

Palit HD4870 1GB Sonic

Samsung F3 1TB and P120 200GB

Samsung SH-S183A

Seasonic S12-430W

Antec SLK3700-BQE

Lenovo L220x (S-PVA -panel  )

Logitech UltraX Prremium

Logitech MX518

Sennheiser HD407

Can't tell how much it has cost because I can't remember but it wasn't terribly much. Even though I haven't upgraded for years it still runs most games surprisingly well, Skyrim runs pretty much maxed with bunch of mods.

I really need to update my sig.

For the most part, my rig is in my sig, except I've replaced my GTX 470 with a 780TI, and replaced the 80 GB SSD with a 240 GB SSD. Everything else is the same.

I'll be perfectly honest, I don't want to know how much I've spent building this pc. I did however, recycle a few parts from my last build...which saved some money.

Intel I5-3570k (4x3.4GHz)
Asus P8Z77-V
8GB DDR3 RAM
GTS 450 (really need to upgrade that, it svcks so hard the case is getting dented :hehe:)
50GB SSD for OS, and 250GB and 80GB hard drives for the other stuff, Antec 300 case, Antec Earthwatts 650W PSU. 22" display, Razer Blackwidow keyboard and Logitech G300 mouse.

I keep upgrading parts of it on irregular basis, latest upgrade was CPU, MB, RAM, and the tiny SSD, somewhere around 500€ IIRC a year or two ago.

The graphics card svcks, and thus the whole rig svcks  Everything is still pretty playable, high settings with 1920x1080 or ultra on 1366x768, if you don't mind playing at 20fps :hehe:

A simple Toshiba Satellite. It cost me 350$, Plays Skyrim on high with a few graphical mods, and play it at a steady 30 fps, sometimes it lowers a bit, especially around Riften, but it plays the game pretty smoothly. :)

Intel? Celeron? Processor 1037U
Windows 8.1
4GB DDR3 1333MHz memory
Intel? HD Graphics
500GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA)
DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer)

Uh? That's wrong. :P

It's got 4 cores and 4 threads. :)

(What differs it from it's i5 equivalent 3570K is that i5's don't have hyperthreading)

Not at home, so from memory:

Case: CoolerMaster HAF 922

CPU: i5-750 OC to 3.9GHz

Mobo: Gigabyte UD-something ;)

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance

GPU: EVGA 670GTX 4GB Superclocked

HD1: Sandisk Extreme 2 240GB SSD

HD2: Samsung Spinpoint F2 1TB

Sound: ASUS Xonar Essence STX

DDRW: whatever

PSU: Corsair HX850

Monitor: ASUS VG278 (27", 1920 x 1080, lightboost for 3D-Vision)

This is nearly a 5-year old system, and I've upgraded the GPU, Memory, Monitor, and SSD. I got the monitor to try out 3D Vision, which is great for a few games, but rarely used. I was going to add a 2nd GPU (requires new mobo--bad planning) for 3D Vision, but so far I've been able to get decent framerates with just one.

Nice monitor. How does 2560 x 1600 play with a 1GB GPU?

Case: NZXT Switch 810

CPU: i5-4670k 3.4GHz

RAM: 8GB

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870 2gb

Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65

HD: Kingston 240GB SSD and an old 500GB Hard disk

PSU: Corsair AX850

Monitor: Asus VE247H

Upgraded the motherboard and cpu recently, runs Skyrim on Ultra with SMIM and tons of graphics overhauls no problem. Going to get an h100i for the cpu before the weather warms up.

a poor laptop:

intel i5 2410 2.3GHz

8GB ram

Nvidia GeForce Go 540m

I can play everything on high( not ultra), AA disabled and shadows on low. I get 50FPS at first but once my video card overheats the frame rate drops to 20-25. still playable but lags a bit.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what's inside it. It's old and needs to be upgraded, I know that.

Here's what i remember off the top of my head (I'm on my laptop right now, so I can't just look into the settings to find out...).

AMD Phenom X2 (or something like that) + AMD HD 4800-series, not sure exactly which one. 4gigs or RAM, and Windows XP. Not the best rig, but I can run Skyrim just fine on high settings, ultra gets a bit choppy though.

I play with a Logitech G10s gaming keyboard and a Razer Naga mouse (both with blue LEDs...)

The best about my setup though is the 50" Full-HD TV, 5.1 surround sound (with 12" sub), and a nice comfy recliner chair.

I know the machine is nothing too fancy, but I'm hoping to buy a new rig soom... once I get the dosh I need for it. :P
