What mods would I be able to run with these specs?

Post » Sun May 02, 2010 9:52 pm

My specs are: AMD Sempron SI-42 2.10 GHz
RAM: I have 3.0 GBs (2.75 usable)
I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
I have a Realtek integrated sound card/
Graphics card is integrated it's an ATI 3200 HD. Total approx memory is 1403.

I have the GOTY edition, so if any of the mods I list have extras for Tribunal/Bloodmoon, I have installed it for them too.
Some of the "bigger" mods that I have are: Morrowind code patch project, Morrowind patch 1.6.4, better bodies, better heads, Morrowind comes alive 5.2, madd leveler, neccesites of Morrowind, Morrowind crafting, scripted spells, vampire embrace, vampire hunger, vampire realism.

I wanted to use some graphic mods so it's a bit better looking, what ones could I use with my specs?
I know it's kind of a general question but I'd just like some people's opinions and what is good for them that I could use.

You should be able to use any and all gfx mods out there, with a possible exception being MGE since you're CPU may be bottlenecked trying to run it along side Morrowind, however there are no texture/mesh replacers out right now that should overload a 3200HD, again, with the exception being if you use MGE in which case too many high quality meshes in the distance could easily bring the best GPU's out now, to their knees. But MGE not withstanding gfx mods aren't cpu intensive and are therefore the easiest thing to upgrade without hurting your fps too badly.(if you had an old intel or x1900 that might not be the case, but a 3200 is relatively new).

I think Morrowind Comes Alive will give you a bigger performance hit than any average texture replacers, because your CPU is definitely the weakest part of the system.

Any of the "normal" texture replacers should be fine. A few of the high-res ones might cause some slowdown in a few places. MCA is probably a bigger FPS hit.

Damnit, I really like MCA. I think there's a MCA Lite, that removes some of the NPCs, would that be better?

I don't really plan on using too high end graphic replacers. Assuming I do run MGE, any advice on what settings I should use?

You might be more cpu bound that I am with MGE since I have a dual core but other than that you have slightly higher specs so here is what I recommend for MGE. Distant land on, draw distance 3, default world texture size, low quality world mesh, default distant statics, SM2.0, AFx16, AAx0, 640x480 resolution, no shaders in the active chain using the 161 revision of mge. Hopefully this helps. Now off to figure out why I go into slide show mode in the shop of Victorian experience.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7749 is pretty close to MCA lite. I use it, no problem, and I can't run MGE or MWSE on this computer. No appreciable slowdown.

Oh, and Timeslip's .exe Optimizer is an obscure little utility that's dramatically boosted my performance. No link because it's nontrivial to find a working download for it :S

i have a 1,8 ghz sepron
1.5 gig memory
128mb ati
i have been running MCA, COM and Creatures X with out turning the game in to a slide show. i do run in to issues with the attacks in cities the worst being Balmora

i do tend to shrink most texture packs to a max of 1024 x 1024 or smaller if there is an option for the 512 i use them
