LET'S MAKE THIS WORK PEOPLE!

Okay, now as anyone could see there are HUNDREDS of tech threads floating around in CD - ranging from questions about graphics hardware, to questions about pricier graphics hardware and other tech such as monitors, hard drives and Processors to announcement threads of new technology and more. (I accede - I'm not being very eloquent here)

Any questions you have, tech news or ANYTHING related to buying/selling/information/announcements of new hardware should go here.

For example, if you come to the forums to ask "What is the better graphics hardware" or "What sort of RAM should I put in my PC?" then it should go here - I'm a little hazy, I know - but please keep all those graphics card and tech questions to one thread! Please!
So here's the summary, all:

  • Announcements and queries on new or unreleased tech
  • Benchmarks and results of hardware/discussion
  • Questions on what sort of hardware you need/want for your machine
  • Questions about existing tech and/or function
  • Pricing and recommendations

Should be kept to THIS THREAD.

This has been A-okayed by CCNA for all who were wondering - it's up to you to stop filling CD with the same topics again and again that ask what the most powerful card in existence is so you can (not) buy it.

If you feel you have a question or can answer one - please feel free to do so.

Thanks all.
Adding more links shortly, thank you for your patience.

(Threads 1-85 have been all pruned, may they rest in peace)

Do I also have to put a big glowing neon sign to this in my signature? THERE ARE TOO MANY TECH THREADS - THIS IS NOT A FORUM FOR YOUR TECH WOES!

But we will gladly help you anyway.

I just want a second opinon on this matter before I purchase it: I want a gaming laptop for when I travel... I'm stuck between these two options.

Radeon R9 m290x 4GB and 256GB mSATA Boot + 1TB 5400RPM 6Gb/s SATA

OR

Geforce GTX 780M and 750GB 7200RPM 6Gb/s SATA + 80GB mSATA caching

Radeon config is 150USD cheaper. I assume I could always buy a bigger mSATA SSD and make it bootable, if it really matters.

Also I researched the subject and basically when you use a mSATA for caching it basically makes a RAID 0 with the "accelerated" HDD and that only 64GB of the cache drive is usable for caching. How do you effectively use the remaining "data" volume on the mSATA, when the both the mSATA and HDD are incorporated into the array? It should only look like one volume to the System, correct?

Dell Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Once the mSATA drive is installed on the system, go to the BIOS screen by restarting system, at the Dell logo keep tapping the F2 key. BIOS screen appears,

click on ‘Advanced’ tab and then on ‘Onboard Device Configuration’ and change it to ‘Raid’ mode.

Next clean install the ‘Operating system’ and all the drivers. Once the installation is complete click on the link below to install ISRT (Dell Intel Rapid Storage Technology) software:

http://dell.to/Sd0qNn

----------

Step1. Run the Intel RST software through the All Programs menu or the task bar icon.

http://en.community.dell.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3514/1526.ISRT.png

Step2. Click Enable acceleration under either the Status or Accelerate menu.

http://en.community.dell.com/resized-image.ashx/__size/550x0/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3514/5140.Acc_5F00_1.png

http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3514/1780.enable_5F00_Acc_5F00_1.jpg

Select the SSD to be used as a cache device.
Select the size from the SSD to be allocated for the cache memory.

Note: Any remaining space on the SSD may be used for data storage using the simple data single-disk RAID 0 volume that is automatically created.
Select the drive (or RAID volume) to be accelerated. It is highly recommended to accelerate the system volume or system disk for maximum performance.
Select the acceleration mode. By default, Enhanced mode is selected.
Note: Enhanced mode: Acceleration is optimized for data protection.
Maximized mode: Acceleration is optimized for input/output performance.

http://en.community.dell.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/3514/8054.enable_5F00_Acc_5F00_2.jpg

Click OK. The page refreshes and reports the new acceleration configuration in the Acceleration View. Your system is now successfully configured with the Intel Smart Response Technology.
