Non-combat Pets

Post » Sun Feb 23, 2014 2:24 pm

Currently you only get one set of the pre-order pets which you would have to put in your bank (since you can't send mail to yourself) and switch out each time you want to play on an alt. They also take up precious bag space. It would be nice if the pets were similar to a spell that you could learn and then always have available on each character.

Thoughts? (Besides "pets are stupid" : :turtle: )

If it would be a spell, then the pet would take up even more precious skill slott ;)

Maybe they will design a specific slot for the pet in inventory so it will not take an extra bag space, if that is so important.

I believe its intentional the way it is now. Ive read elsewhere that you only get 1 per account and youll need to transfer to alts via the bank.

Like a spell...not take up an actual skill slot.

at least 2 pets from the start with imperial eddition

thats 4% of your initial bag space, and since quite a few slots in you bags will be filled with things you want to bring along while adventuring, its more than 4% of the space available for loot

it means 2 less items to bring back and sell/deconstruct every time you head back, it may not seem like much, but it adds up over time

edit: so yes they need to do something with the pets so they dont take up room

2nd edit: or just remove all pets from the game, they dont do anything, i really dont see why we need them, im sure some computers will have enough trouble rendering all the people we meet in a busy town, without having to render 200 pets aswell

Eh, I am one of those that likes pets and could never delete them :) I just can't figure out why they designed it this way.

They could just make it so there is a vanity pet summons skill (with a hotkey) same as how we have a horse summons skill (with a hotkey).

Then send all the characters we make on our account the pet, so they can all right click it into the skill.

because basically they pretty much want you to play 1 character and use other characters as mules which is normal for a pvp game, they tend to focus on perfecting one character more than having a bunch of alts

Naw, they gave us eight character slots. Be insane to do that then say ner ner ner but you can't use them because we've made it so raising alts svcks so much you won't even be able to.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they just haven't properly considered the impact some of the current systems have on the game for us players.

they gave us 8 slots in the beta, so we could experiment

im not sure if we will get 8 slots at launch?

wasnt extra character slots actually one of the things they stated they wanted to sell in the "not" cash shop

I hadn't heard this and doubt very much they'd try to sell character slots in the cash shop.

well here is food for thought.....

most Pay 2 play mmorpgs give you tons and tons of bag space

most free 2 play mmorpgs give you very limited bag space and expect you to buy more with real life money

food for thought :P

i could be wrong and hope i am

i just thought that when they went out and said that somebody had misspoken, and that there was in fact not a cash shop, only a shop that sold services like name changes and a few other things, that one of the other things was extra character slots

but as i said i could be wrong

edit: and even if they do sell extra character slots that doesn't have to mean we have less than 8 at release

The "just delete them" advices are the future angry QQs because the support didn't restore a deleted item.

I agree with you, pets should be "skills" in a separate tab like in the latest most popular mmorpgs. The last time I saw (iirc for pets and mounts) this dated system was in Runes of magic.

They have said they will offer services like account transfers, not through an in-game shop but possibly for a charge. I wouldn't be surprised if extra character slots were available that way.

As for inventory slots, though, I really really don't think they'll do that. You can already expand your personal inventory AND your bank inventory using in-game gold, not to mention by feeding your horse (which also requires in-game gold). That's the inventory expansion system they have; they need it to be a gold sink, to take some of the excess funds out of the economy.

I personally won't be using my character slots for bank mules; I like alts too much, and I hate spending time on inventory management. I'll just be ditching stuff I don't need :P
