Bow skills - Poison is classified as physical?

Post » Mon Feb 24, 2014 1:11 pm

I been trying to come up with a good Nightblade build, it seems way harder than the other classes. That’ being said, in the Bow skill line, you can morph some skills to Poison Damage. Are Poison and Venom damage considered Magicka based or Stamina. I know the skill itself in the Bow line is based off weapon damage and scale off Stamina, however, being morphed wouldn’t it become Magicka based? Considering Fire/Lightening/Frost are all Magicka based damage in this game.

I think even aside from them still scaling with stamina even after the morph, you'd regard poison damage as a physical damage.

I'm honestly a bit confused about how the physical/magical damage and their modifiers work. Many abilities that LOOK physical and seem to use weapons do magical damage, but I'm unclear whether they scale with magicka or stamina. Most nightblade abilities, for example. All of the melee ones SEEM like they should be using stamina and/or weapon damage for scaling, but they do magic damage, and I'm not sure if they use magicka for scaling.

That's really weird TBH, since lightening, fire, and ice in this game are considered Magicka. Which makes sense.

Well .. poison by definition is a toxic substance. Either absorbed, ingested, or injected. It is a physical chemical. So it does have some based for "physical damage"

There seems to be some confusion over terminology in the OP.

Stamina and Magicka are resources used to activate various abilities.

Poison is a damage type, not a resource type. (I don't think the game even distinguishes between magical and non-magical damage in most cases - a torch, a fireball, and swimming in lava all cause "fire" damage.)

Changing the damage type from physical to poison does not necessarily change the resource used to activate the power. It could, but unless the description says something to that effect, the resource type used is liable to remain the same.

Agreed, poison should be physical damage.

I don't think it is as simple as "fire, cold and shock are magicka and poison is physical". You can morph Volley into dealing fire damage, for example: does that mean it's magicka damage from a stamina skill?

You also wonder what increases elemental damage from weapon enchants, if anything.

Anything applied through WEAPON SKILLS will be physical.

Anythimg applied by CLASS SKILLS will be magic.

We're not talking about resources, we're talking about what influences the skill's damage: spellpower, which is linked to magicka; or weapon power, which is linked to stamina. People say "stamina" and "magicka" beause it's easier.

It would be too simplified if there was only one type of damage. Surely npcs especially boss type npcs will have different resistances. For example it would be logical to expect fire astronachs to have some fire resistance, storm astronachs to have shock resistance, etc.

As Cyba said Poison Arrow uses stamina, and I established in the post you quoted that this isn't about resources so I don't know why you're so fixated on that.

Poison uses physical resources and is made from physical reagents. Though I thought i saw a skill that gives you poison resist... either through Argonian, nightblade or alchemy... i forget

*Edit*

Argonian resistance offers poison and disease resist, inferring that poison is its own separate damage the same as fire, frost, and shock damage

Class skills use Magika, Weapon skills use stamina. Doesn't matter what they appear to use.

Sorry I was confused, i thought we were discussing what damage type it did not the resource....

Stamina makes perfect sense, you're still firing a bow... or hitting with a weapon.

Yes, however if something uses physical or magical damage is important regarding enemy resistance,
