Nord Racials, Thoughts?

Post » Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:56 am

For arguably the most talented mele-fighters in Tamriel, I can't help but think that the Nords got the short end of the racial stick in ESO.
  • Robust - Increases Health regeneration while in combat by (5/10/15)%. I can't argue with this one, it sounds fantastic. I'm sure everyone who plays a Nord, Orsimer and Khajiit will love it.
  • Two Hand Weapon Expertise - Increases experience gain with the Two-Handed Weapon skill line by 15%. This is a convenient bonus, but like all expertise doesn't directly affect combat.
  • Resist Frost - Increases Cold resistance by (10/20/30). Increases maximum Health by (1/2/3)%. The fact is that no class skills deal frost damage, the applications for this racial skill are far fewer than something like fire resistance. And the +3% max Health is a far cry from the Imperial's 12%.
  • Rugged - Increases Armor rating by (2/4/6). Unless I am mistaken 6 armor rating is a drop in the bucket even for a cloth wearer.
I am aware that overcharging in some instances can make racials superfluous, but for a min-maxer tank the Imperial race is a far more attractive option.
So just how does it make narrative sense that the brute, bulky and brawny Nords have less health and stamina than their intellectual cousins the Imperials?

I'm pretty sure that some of the values scale with level and the talent calculators just can't get that right, but you're right on frost resist being less than optimal.

Experience gain with any weapon type is just convenience factor.

If I can manage to make a Nord that isn't fat faced(Most of the NPCs I find have them... close together eyes and fat faces, ick) I'm thinking about it for one of mine.

The Orc seems to have better racials, but this is coming from an Orc so...

Does every single player in game that uses a frost staff do frost damage?

I will go for Nord, so difficult to provide an objective view: But I think the Nord racials are fine. In general I like all racials except from one race, but this is a discussion we don't want to do again.

I have to agree with Sakiri on this.
Maximum HP isn't all that important really. For bursting someone down in pvp, a bigger HP pool has obvious advantages, but the longer the fight gets the more important combat regen gets. So, what you do to counter the effect of not having as big HP pool is to go more defensive so you don't take those big hits and thus making the fight last longer.. you're basically wearing them out instead of bursting them down.
You should've seen my tank in WoW TBC times doing pvp.. he was either blocking, dodging or parrying attacks (they also had a 5% miss chance iirc, and was the soft cap at 106% combined?), I could wear out any other melee player ^^
Me and a mage friend would burst down their caster first in 2vs2 (well, I was mainly support keeping the melee away from him) and then I could solo the melee opponent :P

If they just change the frost resistance to spell resistance it would make sense and be equal to others

The Resist Frost passive could be buffed a bit, maybe giving stamina as well. The problem really is no skills use frost damage except frost Destruction staves, which aren't very common at all; wheras lots of common skills use fire damage (Templars seem to always open by throwing Vampire's Bane at you for example) making Resist Flame very helpful.

They aren't the best racials by far, but I will still play my Nord, and when that frost resist saves my bacon one day I'll be happy.

I think the best solution would be for them to add more skill trees and make one of them Frost magic. Or do you think that might be hoping for too much :)

Definitely hoping too much probably unfortunately. I doubt they will change it.
But does anyone know what dmg the blue spells that the Daedra we're using from their hands in the arrival video.

Hmmm, is that by 2/4/6 overall, or per piece of armor? If you add 2/4/6 to each piece of armor that comes out considerably better. Still not great, but less painful.
