TESO-crew please don't listen to the loudest ones

Post » Tue Feb 25, 2014 6:54 am

I just wanted to comment on the new changes regarding skipping starter islands,

There are alot of us who don't post stuff every day or make complaints about every minor issue. In fact, this is my first post. I wonder how many and who actually had an issue with the starting islands? To me, this feel like the work of hipsters and fruitarians. "Oh God, this is not like Skyrim where I can walk anywhere the moment I start the game bla bla bla". I've played your games since Daggerfall and the thought regarding the starting islands being a too handheld experience did not occur to me once. I loved the first 15 levels in ESO.

I love your work, and hope you don't let the kids who scream too much get the better of you. There are many of us who don't post or complain, but silently await your good game. Don't let the F2P'ers or whiners be heard too much. I hope you charge for TESO forever. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and if we want a solid product in the long run someone has to finance it.

All but 1% of all ESO beta testers and press did not enjoy the starting islands. And everyone agreed that the 3rd areas (2nd area for AD) are much better in comparison.

While I agree with you regarding the starter islands, the majority of players will be very much short-sighted (as evidenced by the press reviews), and if ESO is to survive as a commerical product it will need to appease the majority.

Even if I don't like it personally, I agree with the change if it means greater longevity for ESO.

You don't have to. It's optional not out of the game. It really doesn't even affect you.

After you make 7 character we'll see how you feel.

I am pretty sure that the changes were made taking into account the results of the survey, not the posts in this forum.

Also, it is always good to have options.

im on this forum dailly, i didnt see anyone complain here about the starting areas. ive also been on the beta forums since last september and did not see them complain about the starter areas untill this last beta. it wasnt even really that much of a complaint.

and like others said, its optional.

i myself never even had a problem with it and i dont really think very many people did.

i think zenimax knows what thier doin, lets trust them

On the beta forums there was a lot of quack for the starter islands, and also in a few media articles.

How have you not seen them if you were in the beta for 4 months?

reviiews like these http://youtu.be/jT6mR_JYk28 are the main reason teso decided to add a skip "feature" on the starter island

hmm. interesting ..

aparently if we want something changed in the game all we need do is make a public news article about it ....

EDIT: scratch that, what i should have said was

all we need to do to get something changed is have a very annoying high pitch voice on a video and pretend we know lore.

Not only that, but there certainly were complaints about the starter islands on fan communities, this forum, and the ESO subreddit during the beta, and moreso after the NDA lift.

Personally liked the starter area more than I did the first zone when the game "opened up" (or actually failed to open up well). But reading all the reviews of the early experience, it was pretty clear that i was the minority. Lots of people were turned off by the starter experience.

Given that "hooking people early" is extremely important in MMOs, i think that giving those that really want to explore the option to do so is a good idea.

I think even given the option, most people will choose to do the starting areas. They have quests - which is the main source of XP in the game, skyshards and at least a passably interesting story. But having the option doesn't hurt. If i gets Zenimax even 5% more people that don't get "turned off" by the early game, it's a win.

The majority of the press reports when the media NDA was lifted mentioned the starter islands issue. Wasn't just one. Was a pretty universal complaint. And yes, people in here and on other ESO forums have complained about it too. The problem was that it led a lot of people to jump to the conclusion that there were going to be quest gates at all zone transitions, which was felt to be "un-Elder Scrolls".

Personally I like the starter islands, but I can see why they felt they had to change it.

The studio that's making TESO didn't make Daggerfall.

I enjoyed the Starter islands, I personally dont have any issue with them. If somebody else wanna go and skip them, its their decision and im glad they added that option to skip them. Wether or not im going to use it, I like that they give us more options to choose from.
