If you can wear any armor as any class, why not wear plate?

Post » Wed Feb 26, 2014 12:03 am

This is one thing I don't fully understand yet. It's possible to wear heavy armor as a sorcerer for example.

What is the point then of wearing cloth armor if you can wear plate armor? Why would I go for cloth as a sorcerer?

Especially since plate will better protect me against melee attacks and I can work/enchant that armor to have stats that are relevant to my class.

Plate has benefits for health received and stuff

Medium (leather) has benefits for stamina and weapon crits

Light (cloth) has benefits for magicka and spellcrits

This is just a small sample of the differences.

Because the passives for light armour gives much better stat for a caster.

also it [censored]s your stamina when you try to move while sneaking. making it impossible to sneak your way across the room. the ppl there will suddenly see you and then you have no stamina left to fight and then you die. also u will have decreased magicka. and if stealth and magicka don`t bother you at all then your only choice is pure warrior and pure warriors always wear plate so ye.

If you don't like the looks of light or medium you can always put the "bigger" pieces like chest & pants (and maybe helmet) in heavy armor and the rest in light armor. Just for the looks of a true battlemage that can cast spells without much mana issue.

Thats my plan anyway, I'll always try to cover the chest and legs with heavy armor no matter what I choose as my main armor type.

Look on the benefits from medium armor for sneak, stamina or crits - this suits quite good for a melee assassin playstyle. So, check out eldersouls like posted above or esohead.com for details.

You can wear what you want, but some armor type will always fit a bit better to a specific playstyle than another - but you can combine of course.

Light Armor gives you great spell resist, magick regen, and overall the ability to cast more spells.

Melee gives you better crit, stealth, and mobility.

Heavy makes you tankier.
