F2p is just terrible for a lot of games. SWTOR sub system failed because the game was a failure, they invested a lot of money into the game and started out with a massive amount of servers and eventually people started quitting because they became bored which made for less people per server which cause more people to quit. PvP in the game wasn't fun, and endgame raids ruined the game for most people, if you weren't in a guild and part of a core team you were not able to participate in most end game content which is another reason people quit. All of this caused them to switch to ftp so they could try and get more people back to the game and make money off the cash shop and charge for access to content.

But they tend to put that content into their cash shops for the F2P players to purchase while giving subscribers an "allowance" of whatever currency they use and eventually actual, real content dries up as they cater more and more to that aspect of it. "Why put this cool thing in the game for people to work towards when we can put it here for people to buy?"

There's a reason I'm letting my sub to TOR lapse when ESO comes out :)

QFT.

Massively just wants ad revenue by posting overly dramatic click-bait "articles", especially when they can get in their axe grinding against ESO.

If you read the actual article and what Pete Hines was saying it's clear there's nothing to be alarmed about.

Meh. The sheer number of mistakes, and outright monumentally spectacular idiocies, on my part would make me very rich (and any comedian I sold the rights to) should I actually 'fess up to all of them and put them in written form. I can't really hold other peoples' mistakes against them without exposing myself to a rather stinging "Oh, you want to go there, do you" counterattack.

Didn't i read somewhere that Massively had it in for ESO because they weren't given access at a trade show or something? Bunch of drama queens.

I don't have anything against well-implemented F2P - the current model with the 15 usd/month sub and no compatibility across platforms (have to buy game twice to play console+PC AND pay two subs) seems untennable

This game will do fine and those that don't think its worth it just don't like the game, The game is more then worth the sub and has plenty of content, Those that claim otherwise know very very little obviously. Some of us know a lot more then others and i can safely say this game will be fine.

If the devs are so worried about the monthly fee, they should just lower the price. A $10 monthly fee would be much easier to swallow than a $15 one. LotR Online did this, and they had a pretty long-lived MMO that enjoyed moderate success.

A spectacularly handsome one, if I may say. Even if I do get a little out of control whenever someone bakes Tim Horton's doughnuts and coffee while I'm waiting outside a glass door.

Indeed lowering the monthly cost would be a good move. 9.99 is a sweetspot

That article worries me, also, because of how poorly it was written.

The devs aren't worried about the monthly fee, though. That's just Massively twisting another article's words so out of proportion that I'm beginning to think the conspiracy theorists are right when they say Massively is actively trying to sabotage the development of this game.

Seriously? Is anyone worried about this article? It clearly never saw the hands of an editor, so how can anyone take it seriously?

I am slightly worried about the game becoming F2P in six months for two reasons. One is that Alliance War PvP content - which Zenimax and Bethesda seem to think is their crowning achievement - has a very short life span in my opinion. I just don't think players will continue to enjoy it several months down the line. The PvE players are going to ignore it mostly and the PvP players would rather play a rogue/assassin/gank type of game.

Second, the NDA is still being enforced for upper level and end game PvE content while these Beta tests continue to block players from post level 15 PvE content. Z & B have gone out of their way countless times to promote the PvP content while refusing to let public discussion and debate occur over the PvE content. The only reason I can think of for doing this is because the content svcks and/or they do not care about it. If the content was good and it would endear players to the game, then the public could experience it in Beta tests and the closed Beta testers could actually talk about it. The intentional effort to suppress discussion and hide this content has me worried. If anything sends this game to F2P status, it will be horrific upper level and end game PvE content. Z & B are doing nothing to assuage those concerns for whatever reason.

I don't agree with this. I think it's going to take 6 months just to get the first emperor in many campaigns. 3 faction wars is going to be insane. I can't see anyone getting emperor, tbh.

Same thing happened when http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/08/31/bethesdas-todd-howard-not-interested-in-an-elder-scrolls-mmo/. He only expressed his opinion about them, but people took it as a "Nope, never will there be a TES MMO". As you said, it is the site just trying to get clicks. As a matter of fact, that article was only 9 months before the ESO reveal.
