"WHY DO YOU CALL ME A VIRUS?" The Reason Why Tiber K

Post » Wed Feb 26, 2014 3:13 pm

I was discussing something on irc with a good friend, and what she was saying made me realize something that I don't is good or bad or maybe a little bit of both. We'll all soon see.

(Apologies before hand, as this is from a memospore conversations. It might read funny. Also, I'm Periwinkle. Thanks to Sefiriot, for helping the theory along the way.)
[15:25] Tiber realized that even if he built an Empire it would never last
[15:25] uh huh
[15:25] sure, it might survive along time
[15:25] and he'll have successors
[15:25] but it'll eventually die out
[15:25] yeah
[15:26] There's no point in really having an Empire if you know something like that
[15:26] It's like
[15:26] building a car knowing you'll never get to drive it
[15:26] uh huh
[15:27] So that made Tiber become the antithesis to Love
[15:27] he hated
[15:27] O.o
[15:27] or more exact
[15:27] Hated
[15:27] (might be explaining this weird, hang in there)
[15:27] yeah, a bit lost
[15:28] He helped his Lord in his skirmishes
[15:28] right
[15:28] going out and battling the rebels, those who didn't want an empire
[15:28] all while thinking
[15:28] "Why? Why should I do this even if it wont last?"
[15:28] "Who will remember this empire?"
[15:29] uh huh
[15:29] and Cuchlecain died, and he was given his position
[15:29] and then?
[15:30] Tiber still did his crusades, trying to finish what General C started. Building an Empire he didn't want too.
[15:30] okay
[15:30] Along the way, he met the Hist and Vehk and the Mane and whatever mythical characters that he could've met but he never really gave a crap.
[15:30] uh huh
[15:30] They were just objects in his job, and his duty [15:31] yeah, and so?
[15:31] His duty taught him love. It was when he realized that what his job was doing, it gave him love.
[15:31] Well, less the duty
[15:32] what did he realise? ELI5 please
[15:32] but the people he was serving
[15:32] how did his duty teach him love?
[15:32] The People loved him
[15:32] they loved him because his war brought peace
[15:32] and Tiber realized
[15:32] that their happiness
[15:32] made him happy
[15:32] that taught him love
[15:32] and it grew
[15:32] it wasn't Vehk or the Hist or the Mane
[15:33] he cmae to it on his own, damn
[15:33] it was All
[15:33] *came
[15:33] Tiber found Love because he realized that Love isn't for himself
[15:33] Love is for and is everyone
[15:33] well, Thalmor/Alinor hate him
[15:33] lol, there is that
[15:33] well that's why he's CHIM but not Amaranth material XD
[15:33] Exactly
[15:34] Why did Tiber reenact convention?
[15:34] Because he wanted to keep Loving everyone
[15:34] Hell, Zurin and Wulfharth too
[15:34] he made them him
[15:34] once they were joined they too knew Love?
[15:34] Yeah
[15:36] Talos is Tiber showing he loves everyone
[15:36] WHY DO YOU CALL ME A VIRUS?
[15:36] That's why he flipped off at Sul
[15:36] And then Jubal gets is
[15:36] *it
[15:36] and then "I was wrong, you're a preacher man"
[15:37] Exactly

I'd say, though, that Tiber killed Cuhlecain. Also, that's pretty nasty for a guy to arrange for the murder of his two closest compadres just so that they would know Love.

I'm still figuring this out for myself, but my immediate thought was that viruses and preachers are really similar actually. Its just the connotation that's different.

I can't speak for Tiber Septim directly, but I don't think anyone is contesting that Vivec is a terrible person; it's demonstrably provable. You really HAVE to be a terrible person in order to have the right force of personality to achieve CHIM.

Tiber was really bad

1. He killed Cuhlecain for the throne
2. He betrayed Zurin and Wulfharth, the two people who essentially worked the hardest to build the empire
3. He forced Barenziah to get an abortion after he had an affair with her all knowing that she may never give birth again

There is probably more I'm forgetting but yea, Tiber was a terrible person who screws over everyone and everything he gets close to.

The Sack of Senchal was pretty bad, although maybe more attributable to General Pottreid than himself, who, if our timeline is correct, was either spending most of his time in the capital or campaigning in Skyrim.

And of course the Aldmer will never forgive the Siege of Alinor.

I shouldn't have to even mention Alinor, we're pretty much all aware of Numidium.

Hjalti, Wulfharth and Arctus all shared the same soul.. they can betray each other all they want :P.

Do we know what Tiber Septim forced Barenziah into an abortion either?

Seconded. Heck, killing a bunch of people is the way "great" leaders make the history books on this planet; when your reward on Nirn is godhood (and the people being slaughtered on that planet aren't even "real," at least by certain measures), there's almost no reason not to be completely psychopathic in service to one's own ambition (other than self-preservation, and clearly that was not a problem for folks like Vivec and Tiber Septim).

Is it psychopathic or sociopathic? I want to say "both," but I don't really know the technical definition to either one, so I could be reaching here.

Sociopaths basically go to great lengths to hide their pathological nature and are fairly good at it, whereas psychopaths are less inclined to be deceptive for the sake of appearances, rather than their own gain.

So, i'll go with sociopaths, since both Tiber and Vivec wanted to be adored.
