Snow too close to screen. Snow too close to camera.

Post » Wed Feb 26, 2014 4:22 pm

Hey all, I'm having the strangest issue with my PC version of Skyrim. During any snowy weather, large snow flakes are falling RIGHT in front of my screen, blocking my vision. It's as if the effect has been nudged off just a bit so that the snow that I'm supposed to see a little in front of me is too close to where the camera is.

This problem occurs regardless of if I'm playing first or third person, which I imagine makes sense with the way that weather works in skyrim, it sort of follows the camera around.

I've desperately been trying to find someone with a similar problem, to no avail.

If your search has brought you to this post and you are having the issue, please post your load order and description of the issue as well!

Thanks!

Edit: Furthermore, these little "flakes" seem to persist after the weather has ended. Screenshot: http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/yy315/Gwydiian/enb2014_02_2211_22_26_00_edit.png

Since it is related to snow, maybe disable a mod like better dynamic snow or any other mod that affects snow. Just to see if that is the culprit. One by one, not all at once!

Thanks for taking the time to help, btw.

I have in fact, already done that. The effect seems to be present in vanilla skyrim effects.

Most of the weather mods I picked up after the fact, trying to fix the issue, but ended up liking the other effects they added so much that I kept them, lol.

I'm unsure on how the weather in skyrim works exactly, but I can surmise that it follows the "camera" around, as moving your character causes the effects to move with you. This is what leads me to believe that somehow the distance or orientation of the effects in reference to the camera have been altered in a way that these flakes that are supposed to appear at a distance are being rendered RIGHT in front of the camera.

oh wow, you realize you have a lot of mods related to weather and snow? like maybe a third of your load order, lol.

though usually none of those should make snow stick to your camera in any way. if you start disabling mods one by one, i suppose you could start with the more sofisticated ones.

i'm not implying those are at fault, it may just be, that some random problem or engine hickup occured and glued some of their effects in place.

for example Wet and cold (which you do not use) adds some snowstorm blindness to the game, that makes the screen blurr every once in a while during a strom, to simulate snow flakes getting in your eye.

maybe, just maybe a mod you use does something similar to this and the effect got stuck for some reason.

so just a suggestion: if you know that some mods of yours do, or might do something like this, start looking in that direction first.

edit: if what yo are diescribing is not a snowflake glues to the screen, but the actual snow flakes just appearing too close and too big (but still falling), this may just be an issue of too many mods dealing with the same thing. some mod may modify the weather setting for varsious effects, while another may modify the snow shader settings and even another one will modify the snowflake texture. and you just picked a very bad combination.

The only thing I can think of is the CoT ones dealing with Snow.

Snow is all ISM, ImageSpaceModifier(the effects that affects your screen)

Is there a way to reset ISMs in relation to the camera?

You should try starting a new game after you disable your mods. See if the issue returns.

Maybe a fov issue? Have you changed your fov in the game (via command console and .ini settings?)

I have tried to change my FOV via the two .ini files in mydocs\mygames but have never had it work so I just set it back. I'll try manually changing it in game while the issue is happening and see if it changes anything.

THing with COT is you can't just disable it. You need to disable it and start a new game. Disable ally our mods and start a new game then see if the issue goes away.

Well if the fix is to disable all of my mods and start a new game... that's not really a fix lol. I could just reinstall everything and that would obviously fix the issue for any new games. If I disable all of my mods, start a new game and the issue persists, then the answer is still to reinstall everything and start a new game, still no help to me.
