The NCR Conventions IC thread

After the Mojave campaign ended, and Mr. House succeeded in driving back both of the invading armies that threatened him, the New California Republic has faced a time of turmoil. With its general, president and vice-president driven out of their offices due to their mistakes, the political power vacuum has called for unorthodox methods. This is why the senators of the states of the NCR have gathered together in Shady Sands, the capital, to decide who should be the president that could bring peace and prosperity to the land. The hall in which they have assembled now hums with indistinct pvssyr and talk, all fused into one overwhelming sound from which no particular conversation can be heard.

A loud bang of a hammer against wood cuts the air and gives a pause to everyone's conversation. The stern face of the senator of Shady Sands, Harry McArthur, meets the crowd. He seems calm on the outside, but is quite troubled in his mind as he yells:

"ORDER! This meeting is now officially begun and we require silence!" Pausing for a brief moment, the senators thoughts wander. I asked for a proper hammer for a meeting, expecting them to fetch one from some court room or another, but what do I get? A [censored] construction hammer! Typical.... Releasing a small cough, the senator continues "We all know why we are here. We're to skip over cumbersome laws of democracy and replace them with a simpler model, all for the good of the Republic. We are here to elect a new president from among us, to have someone bear the responsibility for the well being of our dear nation. But how could we do that so that we have good grounds on which we choose our president?"

Clearing his throat, and glimpsing at the people in session, senator McArthur begins his explanation:

"I have here with me, a list of our nations greatest problems at this moment. What I propose to you, is that each and everyone of you possible candidates present your solutions to these problems, and then, we shall discuss these plans and then, finally, vote who shall rise to the office of the president. I believe these terms are acceptable?"

Taking a long, studying look into the crowd and finding no objections, the senator of Shady Sands brought up a letter from a his jackets inner pocket, and opened it, bringing into everyone's sight an nicely folded letter. Unfolding it, and clearing his throat, the senator began:

"The inflation of our currency is almost out of control, making our economical progress a lot harder. This must be resolved in order to build an efficient economy. Then, there has been an alarming amount of raider sightings within the borders of our nation. While it would be easy to deal with if our army was in its prime, now that it is weary from many campaigns, a creative and preferably cheap solution is needed. Regarding this, our soldiers are returning home, some faster than other, and bringing in an abundance of cripples and now mentally unstable people among the still healthy ones. The question is, how do we provide for them, all of them? Also, many scientists of the NCR claim that we might be facing a mass starvation in the upcoming years if we cannot find anything to remedy the situation. The groundwork for that is best laid now and even a skeletal plan is better than none. Lastly, if we do choose a new president today, what will be done to quench the protests that will surely follow, big or small?"

Wiping a small trickle of sweat from his forehead and folding the paper back into the letter, senator McArthur looked at the crowd and said:

"We shall now hear your plans, please do not all speak at once."
