Dragon Shout Queries

Post » Thu Feb 27, 2014 2:55 pm

I would like to know if the finding of Dragon Shouts are level dependent? I asked because I was looking in vain for the Marked for Death wall in Solitude, NE of Meridia shrine, but instead I found at the top of the mountain was a ruin with steps leading up to a perch with a Dwemer long sword. The ruins had the image of what looks like a Greybeard face on its wall... I figured maybe my character Lv12 was not at the correct level to see the wall, or maybe I just got lost. What do you think?

Another question, had I gotten the dragon shout, I have a couple from walls from my side quests, i.e. if you have more than one inactivated dragon shout, if I get to kill a dragon, which one will it (the game) choose to activate?

Thanks for your replies!

the finding of dragon shouts is not level dependent, so im going to guess you got lost. :D

also, the game doesn't choose which one to activate, the player does. you'll see a command at the bottom right (i believe) when selecting a shout with spare dragon souls to spend, for example on the xbox i believe its the "RB" button.

hope i helped

I think the world wall you're looking for is literally right by Meridia's shrine. And as the Ron said, the shouts you get from word walls aren't levelled at all Harry. :)

Marked for Death is found inside the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary near Falkreath, inside Forsaken Cave (the White Phial & Ring of Pure Mixtures quests in the Pale), & at the dragon lair Autumnwatch Tower in the Rift.

A few more follow up questions:

OK so I found the word wall beside Meridia's statue, only thing is it did not activate (light up and show in the shouts inventory). So what I did was to finish the Forsaken Cave quest where I got the first word. Does this mean that I have to finish the Meridia's Quest Break of Dawn before I am able to get that Dragon shout word, Marked for Death? I was hoping to save that quest for when my character is at a higher level.

Can we juse use one word? Does it work? I mean you just can't go around killing three dragons at a time. If I kill just one dragon and use it in one of the Marked for Death word, will it work? If it does, is the effect different between one word and three words? Thanks for your replies!

You can use the first word of MfD on its own, but it will be a bit weaker. And it will have a quicker cool down time.

Perhaps you've already got the shout by Meridias statue? I was being a noob before, I actually found out that the word wall by Meridia is Elemental Fury. I'll tell you the locations to marked for death if you're interested Harry.

Autmnwatch Tower, Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, and Forsaken Cave

Are you only interested in Marked for Death or did you want Elemental Fury? The one at Meridia's is Elemental Fury, no MfD. Completing that Daedra's quest has no effect on getting the shout.

*damn, ninja'd by the hairy beard one :P

Spoiler
Autumn Tower in the Rift has Mark For Death and the other can only be accessed via a quest for a certain guild (hint: only guild that can go one way or the other).

With most shouts, more words simply = stronger effect (Bend Will is somewhat of an exception, lvl 3 works ONLY on dragons, apparently, and not people, lvl 2 only on people, lvl 1 is only for a quest etc)

You can use only one word of a shout if you wish. If you have more than one word unlocked, the time you hold the shout button in determines the amount of words used.

All shouts, with the exception of ones linked to quests (Bend Will, Dragonrend, etc) can simply be found in the world, at any level. Some of them may require parts of certain quest-lines to be able to access the areas, eg one is in the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary, thus you'll need to join or destroy the brotherhood to be able to get to it.

The order in which you retrieve the words of a shout doesn't matter, eg, If you were to learn the second word of Fire Breath without knowing the first, you'll learn the first instead.

Hope that answers all off your questons.

I thought MfD was at the wall near Meridia's statue. Haha! Sorry, I can't read dragon writing! My mistake. Nevertheless, I was not able to get that Dragon word Elemental Fury, does it need to have the Break of Dawn quest to be activated? Thanks!

Nope. It has nothing to do with the quest. It must be a glitch. Check that you don't already have the word in your shouts menu.

No it's my mistake! I told you that the shout was there earlier. Yer a noob Hagrid!
