Room mates, house mates

Post » Fri Feb 28, 2014 5:33 am

so im getting a roommate for the first time, kinda (i had some one who was going to be a room mate but he left for personal reasons after a week), and he's going to be moving in today.

so discuss the times you forumers have had room mates in your lives, anecdotes and all.

normally i'd rather not have a roommate, i prefer my isolation, but i want to pay less on my rent so its really the best option for me right now. my room mate is going to be some one i don't know, i placed an add on craigslist, so far seems like a normal kind of person and has two jobs so him paying rent shouldn't be an issue. also im not sub leasing so he answers to the land lord and not me if he doesn't come up with rent.

I have had nightmare room mates and cool room mates.

One was a woman who was a slob. She never picked anything up, never cleaned anything, left dirty dishes everywhere etc. I remember spending 5 hours cleaning the apartment for a date I had coming over. Then I went to work for 5 hours and came home. The place was so trashed and I was so pissed, I decided to pile all the crap on her bed that she left all over the house (the one I just cleaned and picked up 5 hours prior). The pile covered her bed 2 feet deep.

Had another room mate who was cool, but his girlfriend was evil. Straight up evil. She would come over and pick fights with the guy all the time. Her son, who she blamed the guy for but was really fathered by someone else (you just had to look at the guy, no resemblance) was the neatest little kid, good natured happy and all that, until Momma came over, then he would cry as soon as she looked at him. She would close the door to the bedroom so no heat would get in, but then set the thermostat to 85 degrees baking the rest of us out of the house. Of course, she was not paying the utility bills either. She ended up kicking me and all the other room mates out of the house. Which of course meant the guy who owned the house could no longer make the mortgage payment, so he lost the house in foreclosure.

Wow...that is disgusting (the amount of trash)...

My sister was messy like that some while ago, but mostly in her room and her car (Way back when, she has gotten a lot batter at that since moving out). She had so many clothes and other stuff that she would pile it on her bed instead of putting it away. It was even to the point she would sleep on our couch. Her car was just as bad, if not, worse: Back seat just piled with clothes and anything (you name it).

Anyway, what happened with your slob room mate? Did she move out herself or did you put your foot down?
