Talky Morrowind

Post » Fri Feb 28, 2014 8:28 am

This is one of those mods that russian TES3 players know about but english ones don't. Apparently it used to work with a version of MGE that no one uses anymore, and as far as I can tell it does NOT work with MGE XE. With OpenMW so far along, I'm not even sure if it's worth lusting after or not, but I've spent many a sleepless night reading broken english google-translated russian MW threads in an effort to find some information on how someone might get this thing to work.

I'm mostly wondering if anyone here has used it, if they know of any tricks to get it to work with XE, but also to raise the profile of the mod with english speakers. It appears to be open source, after all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD_wm2VFIBg is a video of Talky Morrowind in action.

http://vicshann.narod.ru/MMPack.htm seems to be the main site for the mod. It is distributed as part of a "morrowind module pack" with a couple of other interesting toys and a whacky russian version of MCP.

...and http://www.fullrest.ru/forum/topic/20182-avtomaticheskaja-ozvuchka-dialogov/ is what seems to be the official Fullrest.ru thread for the mod. It has some valuable information, but nothing that has helped me get it to work no matter what I try.

Thoughts?

I hope they will get it to work with MGE XE. I do want to hear synthesised voices for Morrowind. :)

Very interesting. Based on the video it functions like the Oblivion dialogue zoom, but without freezing time. It certainly makes dialogue feel much more dynamic, and the voice acting quality is respectable. Honestly I'm surprised that an English variant hasn't cropped up.

It's all done through voice synthesizers and each race/gender combination has a unique voice afaik. One can also load up voice files with actual voice actors reading the lines, though the russian community had very limited success finding people with a good quality of voice to volenteer their time.

Thanks for the link Abot. Now we just need to find a better source for the English voices.

@Abot
No kidding. I can't believe it. I'll try out your instructions.

@LanceAvion
I'm going to look into some high quality voice synths for this.

This would be a great addition to consider in Open MW. There have been many advances in voice to speech applications too. They lack performance, but can be cheated to a certain extent to achieve a little bit of character.

They were using them in TESO beta for voices that had not been properly synced yet...and it was totally obvious because you had inconsistencies in regards to performance.

For one MW project, voice acting is being done with all vanilla lines at the moment. Not sure how it could be extended to other mods, though.

Got it working. Abot's instructions were very similar to what I had been doing the whole time but for some reason this time it worked. Because Abot is magic.

Here's a video of it working with really nice voice synths: http://youtu.be/PHRdlIMjojM
