Becoming a major role character in the wasteland

i was wondering what is the broad opinion here on the forum about having real power in the wasteland, me personally would like to have the option to become a powerful man in the wastes, a guy that may get reputation through being a big shot like an owner of a hotel , a man who has muscle and riches, and i don't mean like a super powerful character battle-wise , i mean like having the option to intimidate people or have my name walk before me so when i speak to high profile characters i'd be greeted with respect.

of course i think the road to being a powerful man in the wasteland needs to be hard and also tricky to achieve, like some sort of specific quest-branching and wise choice making that will lead you to own something powerful, instead of allways being the "guy who helped them win" that you are in

every fallout game.

for a change i would like to be an owner of something, i want to be the guy who leads an attack, there was this line an NCR soldier said that really got me thinking, he said "if you'd be serving, you'd probably be half way to general by now" and it really got my attention , what if you could serve at the NCR? what if you could have a squad of rangers accompanying you around, and having small-timers fear you instead of everyone just always treating you like an errand boy all the time, which really pains me because even when you , for example kill ceaser and become idolized by the NCR, people still treat you like an errand boy, which is very anti-climatic for me personally, what do you guys think?
