Oh Dear, this is not going to be good.

Playing at about level 6, on Bheizh, doing the main quest, I suddenly get the rogue following me around. He wants to help me find a place I already found.

It was at this moment that I realized that this game isn't an Elder Scrolls style game. It's a beautiful RPG on rails, very similar to SWTOR. It may make a fine MMO, but it's a terrible Elder Scrolls game.

I'm playing a Redguard Sorcerer.

  • Why can't I cast a fire spell?
  • Why can't I cast a cold spell?
  • Where are my stealth spells?
  • Where is my unlock spell?

The customization of YOUR character to fit YOUR playstyle that made Morrowind the top RPG Game of all time has been replaced by a class system.

When at level 6 there isn't a single skill tree available to me that appears to be worth placing any points into aside from heavy armor because none of them match the character concept.. it's a painful and sad fall from the give everyone everything and let them choose what works for them.

Maybe Sorcerer is the wrong class to play if I want to play the heavy plate warmage/utility caster who fireballs everything at point blank range and has a spell for every situation.

This game is currently at about 40% of where Guild Wars 2 was at launch. It has the rails quest system, but it lacks the spontaneous environment changes, the group quests, the vistas that encouraged exploring, random zones to loot, and the spontaneous adventure that makes Elder Scrolls games superb.

The Elder Scrolls brand will help sales, but the product offered doesn't match the brand's key traits. As a result, I expect this product to damage the overall Elder Scrolls brand.

This worries me a great deal as Morrowind is my favorite RPG of all time and Skyrim was a lot of fun. Regardless of how ESO does, the single player open character development RPG those games did brilliantly is something that I hope Bethesda will revisit.

Huh, that's weird. I made a Redguard sorcerer as well.

  • I was able to cast fire spells when I got a fire staff.
  • I was able to cast cold spells when I equipped my newbie frost staff.
  • Control is sneak. You could make a night blade for the stealth line and use staffs for the casting.
  • As far as I know you just need lock picks to unlock.

I made a dark sorcerer with a pet, casting fire, ice and dark spells while wielding a longsword. (I eventually want to use a 2h weapon, but haven't found one yet.)

I can knock a mob down, freeze it, cast a damage spell then finish off with my sword when it gets close.

I'm also training in heavy armor.

It sounds as if you haven't taken the time to equip a weapon. Of course, I'm just guessing based off of what you said, which doesn't make much sense to be honest.

You should have looted a staff in the very first area, which is your frost staff. Equip frost for cold, fire for fire damage based spells. The destruction staff under the weapons on the skill page will allow you to train damage spells.

And no offense, but comparing Elder Scrolls to Guild Wars 2 is neither here nor there. I doubt you'd be happy if someone came in and compared Guild Wars 2 to Elder Scrolls.

Maybe you need to take the time and learn your character/skill tree. There's a lot of customization in there.

Right there is your problem.

If you want to make a Sorcerer that can cast fire/cold spells with a two handed sword, your SOL.
