The game screams for controller support.

Post » Sun Mar 02, 2014 5:31 pm

I've played the last 4 beta tests and it's always bothered me. This time around though it just blows my mind that given the way the interface is designed that there is no out of the box controller support. When you add to that the fact that the game is being released on PS4 and Xbox One, there's just no excuse.

The hitboxes are large enough to compensate for any aiming deficiencies because the combat doesn't require precise aiming. It does require twitch reactions though and those are best suited to a controller, specially in third person.

I'm to the point where I'm leaning towards playing on PS4 despite having multiple friends who are all playing on PC. One of my friends said he used Xpadder and is able to use a controller. The point is that 3rd party programs shouldn't be necessary in a multiplatform release with a UI designed around controller use.

I want controller support so bad, that and make enemy NPCs solid, so when fighting them you don't go through them.

I don't get why there is no support yet they have already implemented the UI which is the hard part. Adding fundamental button presses is the easy part

I use xpadder and a 360 controller. but I get what you're saying about a third party. However, other games that add controller support just never feel right to me. With xpadder I can completely map my controller add sets and tons more great features. It's just too good and no in game support has come close for me.

Using an Xbox 360 controller and 3rd party software for mine and love it! Just wish I had a bigger monitor so I could kick back and relax while I play!

I do like board and mouse as well, but it doesn't half feel fluid with a controller.

Twitch skills are not better with a controller. There is nothing better about a controller over a mouse in game like ESO. If you want to use a controller though and feel comfortable with one over a mouse that is your preference and Zenimax should no doubt have controller support.

What twitch activities do you do in TESO using the mouse?
The only twitch controls I've found so far are to dodge enemy attacks which are done with the keyboard.

Yeah cause that's obviously why platformers and action games are so popular on PC and not consoles... oh wait.

Believe that if you want. The general populace may be better with a mouse, but I'm not. Can't wait for the XBox version.

This is a hybrid FPS game. There is no debate as to which is the superior hardware choice. Now take Fifa 14 for example, the controller is the best setup.

Let me put it this way, I have never seen a pro player in any fps game on the pc play with a controller. I think that answers that.

It's not really though is it, the mapping boxes used for targeting as pretty large you can't miss really. This isn't like a FPS at all, as long as you're target is roughly centre screen when you start your attack even if they move your attack still hits. If this happened in FPS games I wouldn't actually be pretty good at them.

I'm totally confused by your statement? So you're saying their are twitch based interactions required in this game with the mouse that can't be a polished with a controller?
Because my post was in response saying that their are no twitch based reactions required with the mouse and only keystrokes with the keyboard are used to do this which can easily be replicated with a controller.......

No it doesn't. This isn't an FPS. You can only have 5 skills mapped even with a mouse and Keyboard. You actively dodge, which can be done with a single button press on a controller giving better reaction time then double tapping W,A,S,D. If this game had tons of hotkeys like WoW, which I think goes overboard with the plethora of hotkeys and situational rubbish, I'd agree that mouse and keyboard would be great.

ESO isn't anything like that. When navigating the menus, equiping items, buying and selling... all of these things are designed around controller use. YOU might be more comfortable with a mouse and keyboard and think that it's the only obvious choice. I disagree and I've provided more than enough example as to why.

There's nothing twitch about ESO, the hit boxes are huge. No head shots, the cursor doesn't even have to be on your enemy just kinda close. It's nowhere near a fps.

Whatever, I'll just wait until the game's released on console and then recreate the key binds with Xpadder or something. It's just rather mind boggling that the game is designed around controller use, is releasing on PS4 & Xbox One, yet doesn't have native controller support for the PC version. It was just as mind blowing when Bioware did the same thing with Mass Effect 1, 2, 3, and Dragon Age 1 & 2.

I downloaded xpadder, it lets you map your windows Xbox controller keys so that you can choose what each button does (can pretty much map it so it's the same as skyrim) then launch the game. All the software does is "replicate" keyboard keystrokes so it's no different than being sat with your board and mouse except you've got the comfort of a controller. :)

If I may be so bold, but considering you already mapped it completely. Could you tell me what mappings you did? :)

It's been proved key boards and mice are better over controllers for targeting and fast combat, I forget the name of the game was xplatform with the 360 one of the first games for windows, I'd rather play a mmo with Kb+ mouse, other games like AC/witcher on pc I use my pad.
