I'm a level 8 thief. All I've done up to this point is break into people's homes and rob them.
In this case it's fine - Siddgeir deals with the local riff-raff, after all.
Like most of the rest of Skyrim, it's a pretty good good idea, but poorly implemented.
Bethesda really needs to improve their writing and execution of quests.
That happened to my thief as well. His thought was "Uh-oh! I'd better lay low for a while!"
I got the letter within the first 5 mins of starting a new game... i did literally nothing. Alternative start, arrived at Windhelm docks, entered Windhelm and that was it... I guess i did something on the ship ride? Lol.
One reason I like the mod "timing is everything"
I usually set the start of things to higher levels, when you've built up a reputation so to speak (move most up to around 20, 25ish... though set dragonborn to higher and farther on the main quest)
Just recently started a new character and I also got this around that same level. I had not done a whole lot, just robbed a few houses, killed a few bandits and barely started the thieves guild when it happened.
In Skyrim, a thane's not half the deal it was in real-life. It's like being knighted in the UK is now; you get to attend some posh lunches and hang with some fancy people if you tickle the right tummies or, if you want to be difficult, do something outstanding and deserving of recognition
haha. My orc (using an alternate start mod) arrived off the coast of Dawnstar and began her travels to her new home in the Reach. Dushnikh Yal. She is a hunter and smith so along the way she killed more then a couple wolves, bandits and such. It was a long walk from Dawnstar to the Reach, she was about lv 8 as well when she passed through Falkreath. No stopping in any cities. Don't think she spoke to anyone other then to barter some goods with Alvor in Riverwood.
Anyway as she passed through Falkreath Hold she killed a mighty buck. Didn't think anything of it until a courier met her at Dushnikh Yal with a letter from Siddgeir. To this day... still not sure how he learned her name. She just assumed that buck must have had a bounty on its head for eating Mrs Jones's cabbage garden. Either way she tossed the letter. The Stronghold is her home.
Yup, that mod is very high on my "must have"-list. Also prevents those pesky vampire attacks from starting before you're ready for them.
Keep in mind he asks you to help him take care of some bandits that cheated him in an exchange... you're not the first criminal he's struck a deal with.
I just recently discovered "Timing Is Everything" and it is now a must-have mod for me. It's amazing. G
hey you! yeah you! I've heard you are murdered half of the people in my town. Do you want to be the thane on my "city"?
Or rather: "Hmm. Sounds like a someone I could use to do the dirty work for me. Would probably do anything for a little gold. Could always offer him a Thane-ship if he's persistent."
