Recently, Iv'e seen people debating the differences in the GECK found in Fallout 2 and the GECK found in Vault 87 in Fallout 3. I would like to share my insight here and open it up for discussion. According to the Fallout Bible the GECK contained a replicator, fusion device and seeds and such, which is different than what you find in FO3. The FO Bible also stated that it was open to change as the developers seen fit. The standard GECK was made by Vault-Tec, same organization that built the vaults. Ok, now here is were Bethesda adds to Fallout lore, doesn't really change anything, just adds to the story. The GECK you find in Vault 87 was made by a special branch of Vault Tec called Future-Tec headed by Stanislaus Braun. It was a top secret organization. They researched, as the name implies, future technologies. Vault 87 was changed and adapted for Dr. Merrick's FEV experiments, to create a super human that could survive the environment you would find after a nuclear war. That's why when you go threw Murderer Pass, it looks like a construction zone with the Vault Tech signs, the fencing and the few sections of the vault not being connected to the main vault. Also the terminal entries hint at the last minute change in the vault's purpose. According to the Fallout Bible, Mariposa did the same, they changed their FEV for the new environment as well. Dr. Merrick once worked at Mariposa. Anyway, it was decided that Vault 87 should receive this GECK and it was decided at the last minute because it was installed by the "Geck Scramble Team" just before the vault was sealed. It even came with a letter of congratulations from Stanislaus Braun for receiving the GECK. So you have a unique GECK(Brauns creation) with a unique Vault. This is how I see the GECK you find in FO3.?
