The bow is simply ridiculous

Post » Mon Mar 03, 2014 8:31 am

After seeing literally half the players in PvP run around with a bow, I tried it (the other half are using staffs, give or take). It's so incredibly easy to use - just stand back in safe range, loosely aim at your target, and spam M1. Silly really. I suppose I'll just roll an archer in PvP until this thing is nerfed! My suggestion would be to make aiming harder - as in the cursor actually has to be placed on the target for you to hit (or - for extreme difficulty - not autotrack to the target; i.e.target moves, you miss). Same for staff. These weapons should require more skill or the bulk of weapons we see on the battlefield are all ranged, and that's boring!

Just one quy's opinion, of course.

No autotarget(as in once arrows has been released at the locked target) would mean melee would destroy everything when it comes to ease of use. 90% of players would avoid bows, staves and magic because it'd be too easy to miss/dodge. Targetting could be a little harder for sure.

I absoluteness hate the auto target i was facing a totally opposite direction in PVE and my target ws hit. i was mad because i was attempting to avoid them. It takes away 99% of the fun and challenge of archery. Obviously melee would kick as thats why itd be fun and you'd have to actually be good at aiming to hit your target in PVE and PVP. Its a total turnoff and its stupid.

Magic is diferent magic makes sense that magic has auto target i mean its magic it can do anything....

Yep, that sounds like a bow.

Well in almost all games archers are pretty easy to use, get a target press 1 or assist your party and press 1 so I'm not that worried for archers being easy to use, unless you get in melee range you're pretty much wrecked.

the bow is not the problem, the weapon switch is the problem. if people were locked into 1 weapon you would not see everyone using a bow or a staff. the way it is now why not have 1 ranged and 1 close range weapon? i know thats what i am going to do. use bow when i got the distance then switch to my normal set up if they close the gap. i personally hate the weapon switch and this is 1 of the reasons why

Not that bows are not going to be adjusted, but I'm willing to bet that alot of it is because bow was going to be popular no matter what lol. Destruction staff doesn't really feel satisftying and your only other range option is restoration staff lol.

Give destrction staff more use and you'll see less bows. Because bow is curently the only vaible ranged option in PVP.

This is true. But if they disabled autotargeting they could compensate for difficulty by making the bow more powerful. That would reward skilled players as opposed to penalizing anyone not running around with a bow/staff.

If you just tab target them and have your screen facing their general direction it gets even easier.

What makes the bow good in PvP is that it's a range weapon. But saying that it's OP is just stupid. The abilities and the damage is balanced compare to other weapons.

If you want to balance the bow in PvP you have to make the range of the bow the same a melee weapon..... Witch is stupid. Also if you where playing in a more organized group melee weapons would make more sens but you can't storm the enemy alone with a melee weapon you need to all go in at the same time. So in conclusion you all need to use VOIP for melee to work.

The "auto target" has been changed in the latest beta build from what I've heard. You actually have to face the target to hit them. You can't turn around anymore and still hit them.

It looks to me that the benefit of an bow is the ranged sneak bonus this is trivial to get in solo PvE however not very useful in group engagements.

Does the base attack have longer range? One benefit of staffs might be that few has magical resistance better than armor.

Anyway I play an sorcerer with staff and I have been killed by melee fighter a lot.

Also with the zerg mode we play now staying in the flock and shoot towards enemies is the safest bet as any single player going close to the enemy will draw fire.

An loosely coordinated group can charge together

I'd say a big problem is the lag. Who wants to use melee in this lagfest?

Melee has always suffered from lag in MMOs. Ranged always required less skill to execute. But just watch the PvP videos out there.. most of the ones I've seen have been Templars wielding 2h weapons or shields. There's lots of dragonknights and nightblades that use melee in pvp too.

I'll probably go with a bow for my first weapon... I'm making a siphoning night blade to solo with. But when you're battling keeps without much room to maneuver, melee is going to do better.

This would cause problems with lag, archer might not see you move, you would not see him aim. anyway this would simply stress movement more as anybody can hit a stationary target, if the enemies are clumped together you aim at group.

Getting cc would be bad for you health.

An more powerful bow would rule PvE.
