Why World pvp is amazing.

Post » Mon Mar 03, 2014 10:41 pm

I think this video summs it up for me very well

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Fv10FCyNHg&feature=c4-overview&list=UUywBfpGBYhsczNuyyh6Cf6w

Although i will be playing ESO and i absolutely love the setting and immersion. This is why open world pvp is so important, first leveling will be fine while following fresh storylines, but a ton of people me included will get bored in the second playthrough already.(i will be spending a TON of time ganking in Cyrodil questing areas, that is for sure)

It is a pretty hilarious review :D

And yes, i know not everyone likes pvp. PvE servers should have been for those people(could have happened with the questionare) But i do disagree with pretty much everything he says except the lack of world pvp ^^

The guy in the video just complains like a female dog every 10 seconds...

WoW was successful because it's world pvp? I guess if you ignore that there's 20 times as many full PvE servers than PvP servers... WoW was never made with world PvP in mind. Anyway, bad review is bad... took alot just to get through him trying to be funny at the beginning.

@Drexill, I know, the guy trying to act funny was just very irritating. Not even once did I laugh or crack a smile in that review. I just sat their watching it with a straight face just nodding my head "no". Also when he says he couldn't play more than an hour of it is BS because you can tell he played for about 12+ hours by the gear he had and where he was.

Like anything else its just an opinion which i disagree with.

Ive been in most mmo that released since Asheron Call, made it to the end and usually an hardcoe raider/pvp-er. Loads of mmo came out, not really excited for, the genre was getting bland.

Now come Eso... first beta i wasnt impressed with it, combat felt clunky etc. I played it this weeked for a long time...

woooooOOoow. I felt so immersed, it was so fun. It gave me the feeling of adventure, the feeling of wanting to know whats behind that tree, that wall, that rock... a living breathing world. Of course the game still have some minor bugs and things like archery could be better but its an automatic buy for me and would purchase a lifetime subscription for it.

The game won me over, hard.

If the game keep you occupied and you have fun, you wont need world pvp. I was on pvp server in wow and it never resulted in something fantastic. Its often gank or get ganked when bored. Why? because wow linear quest system of kill X or these, gather X of these, apply x of these now kill the boss rinse and repeat ... after a while it get to you, you want to break the tedious chain of quests grinding and do something fun but you have to level to get to the end, the fun part.

Here in Eso the fun part was everywhere around me, i explored the world for like 4 hours without touching a quest, found public dungeons and had sooooo much fun. The thought of attacking another player never crossed my mind.

The best solution that I've eve seen for this in an MMO was in DC Universe Online. They also have megaserver tech but run two separate servers, one with optional PvP (toggle it on or off), the other world with forced PvP.

But here's the clever bit... the main headquarters (Hall of Justice for heroes, Hall of Doom for villains) has a wonderful device called a phase shifter in it that lets you swap between the PvP & PvE worlds at whim. Totally free and easy, unlimited uses, sick of getting ganked one afternoon when trying to level up? Teleport to your headquarters, phase shift to the PvE shard and grind in safety. Leveling getting a bit dull? Switch back to PvP.

This is something that every MMO should have as it gives players that all important CHOICE but it's not going to happen.

I my experience world PVP actually thins out pvp too much, you search around and cant find anyone your level so you end up ganking someone lower level. Also when you are spread all over the world map it takes away any importance of PVP that accomplishes something in an area like controlling keeps or objectives.

I think the Cyrodiil setup is perfect, just like the frontiers setup was perfect in Darkage of Camelot. you have a massive area to do what ever you want but you know people in this area are there to pvp or to do mixed PVE /PVP. if you want to be apart of massive keep sieges and defenses you can and the map tells you where it is happeneing. You don't like the zerg? then run a roaming group and fight other enemy roaming groups. Its a lot easier to find enemy groups in 1 zone compared to a whole world map. You want to solo and ambush? you can do that here at any key location or path to the hot spots or battle lines. But the difference here is you are helping to contribute your alliances war effort comparing to an open world server where you are just ganking people while they exp.

This guy obviously never made it to the PvP area. Open world PvP is never a majority idea in MMO's any populated MMO puts the majority of its PvP outside of the questing areas or main questing areas or in separate servers.

If you actually made an attempt to get to the PvP area you, if you really like PvP, would have had a much more enjoyable experience.

When I hear open world PvP the first thing I think of is some guy who wants to go around ganking people unsuspecting as they quest. I wont call you out like that but if you dont like the PvP area in this game that's really all you want is the opportunity to gank those that dont want to be ganked. And if that is the case thats not really PvP is it as only one person is doing the PvPing.

What is wrong with having a choice of what to do ?

-fight in the wars

-craft

-adventure

I do what I want...when I want.

I prefer the current system. If some people want PvP only, then play until you can get into that. Ganking at low level places will make other people quit and ZoS will inescapably make less money.

This guy contradicts himself more than once. I'm a journalist, and you can tell when someone "calls in" a story. This guy did a half-ass job researching the game and his review shows. Also, he is oblivious to the fact that he spent half his game in starting zones (if I remember right, starter zones are "safe zones" in WoW). Lots of other stuff I could nitpick about in his YouTube video, but its just not worth the keystrokes.

What is wrong with world PvP.

PvE content progress faster then PvP co ntent

PvP player forced to PvE to PvP as strong as possible.

PvP and PvE gets different gear to fix it.

PvP gear players Melt PvE players.

Making PvP harder to get into since you need to do catchup an are forced to get treated like cannon fodder till you are geared

Open World PvP.

New people get into the game and can't even take one step into the world because they will get ganked upon sight because they make easy targets because PvP is stretched too thin and they can't find people around their level to fight with.
