To LFG or not?

Post » Tue Mar 04, 2014 2:03 pm

Since I havent seen a post on the forum about this important issue I would like to know what people think about it?

In WoW and SWTOR people were furious and the discussions went back and forth both for and against.

What is your opinion?

There is its under Group. Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't show as far as I could tell any dungeons like Banished Cells. It showed me like 10-19 lvling zones which was 3. I think I should be able to see all dungeons like FFXIV's duty finder.

I prefer looking for groups through chat and meeting people naturally. I never use LFG tools unless I absolutely have to.

That said, TESO does have one...

In beta the group tool worked horribly, ended up having to spent time spamming zone chat and putting the groups together myself for pve

i prefer a LFG tool that auto group me with random strangers. I rarely go into a guild unless i need to (raiding).

I hate having to spam a chat for hours to get a group (old wow, old rift, eq2 etc.)

I made lots of friends through LFG just as much as i had to kick trolls/idiots.

Its not because you invite a guy via chat that hell be good/friendly/awesome player. Just take more time. Since we are on a MEGA server, it wouldnt create what people like, a close community where you know people name and reputation. If we have lets say 3 million players playing eso, you can end up with any of those 3 millions in your current instance of the map, you cant befriend 3 millions people. In wow there was a set number of players by server and it was always them and lower population server usually meant a closer knit community.

This cant happen in eso because of megaserver. I prefer a LFG tool to speed up the process.

The LFG option in this game needs some work. I tried to use to find people who had completed Fungal Grotto and wanted to tackle Banished Cells and Spindleclutch. Unfortunately, I was above level 20 and the only options for me under LFG were for Deshaan which was a disabled zone in this Beta. This level based focus instead of user selected content base for LFG is a significant failure of this option for me.

LFG is mandatory. I don't plan on spending 30 min in the town spamming general chat for a tank/healer until the rest of the group gets bored and leave.

Besides even Bioware added LFG to swtor after yelling and screaming they're gonna be original and not have LFG because...*insert [censored] reasons*.

I think it's important to make a distinction between WoW style LFG and what it could be. WoW LFG makes it simple, fast, easy. Putting the party together through spamming chat is more personal, interactive and weeds out kids who don't know how to read or run to the dungeon. I think there is a system that embodies all of these: a LFG menu that simply shows all other people interested in doing the quest/dungeon/pvp and upon forming a full party will que you for the event. I wouldn't want a LFG system as simple as WoW, it really doesn't weed out the lazy people.

I knew the LFG was in the game, but it never really worked.

Im not sure if it was disabled on our beta weekend servers though.

And what direction should the tool go in..on spot group assembling a la wow or more like a "heres a list of other people whos LFG too"...like Neverwinter?

I don't mind that because I just add people to my /ignore list because they're spamming - it's a sure-fire way to know which people to avoid. You know, the "me, me, me" people who spam in chat.

And that is fine as well, though I have you know I've done all 3 dungeons in beta quite a few time. So by putting people who take the time to put a group together on your ignore list will likely make it harder for yourself when you wish to join a group. I would better recommend turning off the zone chat while your not using it. I exspect there will be more channels to talk in comes release but only time will tell.

Honestly a period without LFG is healthy for an MMO community - it does eventually need to be added though.

The grouping tool is, at best, broken; it doesn't assemble groups according to roles and therefore you get grossly unblanced/unprepared encounters.

hell I hope the grouping system will be decent because I hate chat being spammed and filled up with LFG all the time

WTS WTB blablabla ..

If people have to use chat for these things, something is not right in the way the game is set up

The second method is far superior to the first because it doesn't automate the process. As long as you can't invite players directly through the UI, it actually keeps the communication element in setting up a group because the player sending the invitation would be rude not to send a whisper to the player first, explaining what the invitation is for. This gently urges people in the group to read the chat instead of blindly rushing through the dungeon without saying a word to the people they're playing with.

It's actually fine if it's done through chat. What that does require is channels specifically made for these types of messages (LFG and Trade channels). This way, people that are currently uninterested in groups or trades can simply disable the channel and be free from the associated spam.

Or perhaps it could be like that letter you get when the Dawnstar Museum opens in Skyrim.
You select an item you are interested in and as soon as it is available somewhere in the world
A guild can choose to sell it publically. The highest bidder can then head down to claim the item
and perhaps make some new friends in the guildhall where he/she needs to pick up the item.(the classic systems are way to asocial)
You could select specific content and as soon as another player does that too you'll be automatically teamed up.
Grouping could become more natural like how NPC sometimes become followers at a certain point.
No chat involved.I'm guilty of asking lfg in mmo's too but I hate begging myself too
It is annoying as hell and with the megaserver I bet you'll always find someone quickely who wants to do the same
Perhaps LFG becomes a thing of the past..I would certainly cheer for that.

You are describing exactly what WoW has... The automated, communication-free process is exactly what makes grouping worse, imho.

Agree completely, there were times when I spammed chat saying "level 20 healer here looking for a dungeon..." and would get NO replies.
Naturally, I tried to LFG tool and I couldn't even search for what I wanted.
Not only that, but when I DID actually use the LFG tool, I found it was too simplistic.

You should be able to put detailed information about your character/playstyle, and search for such too.

For example; right now it's literally just "prefered role..tank..dps...healer"
Well what if I want to find someone who's purely DPS, someone who's purely a tank, someone who's purely a healer
What if I want someone with a specific skill or ultimate?
What if I want someone within a specific level range?

None of these are able to be utilized in great detail (yes you can click more than one "prefered role, so you can be a "tank healer" or "dps tank", but I feel like many people don't use it in that way and end up selecting one option)
