Archmage's robes? Though I have no perks in Alteration tree, so I wear leather boots of hauling, some priest mask and leather bracers.

For me:

Best College robe (novice, apprentice, master, etc ) of distruction (or archmages robes - modded to have separate hood)

Circlet of Magicka (best I can get/make)

Gloves of Magicka (best I can get/make)

Amulet of Magicka (best I can get/make)

College or arch mage boots w/ muffle or fortify carry capacity

Ring of health or magicka (best I can loot/make)

One I get double enchanting, likely to add health or magicka regen to items (and make my own robes)

Thanks. What would you call a character who uses adept robes and hood, and has a one handed sword at their side.

I'd usually wear a robe of some sort.

I usually try to get some robes that aren't enchanted from "radiant rainment" and then apply the enchantments I actually want to them. Same with boots, gloves and hood. I think it not only looks better than stuff you find but is way superior with your own enchantments designed to fit the character.

Up until Dawnguard I was rocking the Thalmor gear, but following Dawnguard I've been wearing the Royal Vampire Armor which I've modded to have zero armor rating. It just looks so amazing on a Dunmer.

Master robes for my primary school of magic and as many enchanted items that provide Magika regen as I can haul, to include Morokei. Though my boots have 40% resist shock and I carry a Ring of Less Frosty in case I encounter frost mages or dragons. Those two types of Destruction drop me quickly. I will eventually enchant my own robes because I have some in a chest that are not enchanted and I think they look pretty cool.

Master robes of Destruction, light boots with frost & shock protection, light gauntlets with fortify one-handed & two-handed, Morokei, necklace to boost magicka & magicka regen, ring to boost health & health regen. This for a Dunmer.

Depends on the char. Usually robes, but with poorer characters just clothes.

Shrouded Robes.

What assassin needs armor, anyway? :P

I think it's a little silly wearing dark brotherhood armour and shrouded robes. An assassin would dress in normal clothes or armour.

When i played a pure mage, i just used the ordinary enchanted robes you can find, adept-expert/master robes & hood. With any shoes or boots that fit the look & perhaps a pair of gloves like hunters wear.

I don't do much in the way of crafting in Skyrim, so i can't wear regular cloths & enchant them. That is however what i did in Oblivion. Of course you could just wear normal un-enchanted cloths if you like the look a lot.

Since I play on the PC, I use mods for clothing that doesn't look like armor but has a decent armor rating, thus protecting my squishy mage in the earlier stages.

I like the look of the Mourner's Clothes with a hood, or the vampire robes. I usually end up wearing robes pilfered from a corpse or what the College gives you, generally with leather boots just for a little protection. Unfortunately all the clothes seem pretty chilly if you play with Frostfall installed, I'm often tempted to do the 'inspect gear' thing and say that my robe gives better protection and justify it as 'well, I'd be wearing a wooly vest and tights, not tiny underwear.'

I don't know where I picked them up, so I googled and I think they're part of the PC unoffical patch.
